This is the dullest wedding of Ronaldo and Georgina

By
Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez secretly got married last week during an intimate ceremony in Cascais, Portugal. While we are usually accustomed to extravagance from the couple, they opted for a notably understated ceremony. We know Georgina, of course, from her reality series I am Georgina, in which she gives a glimpse into her life that is anything but minimalist. On August 11, they finally exchanged vows, ten years after they met and now forming a large family of seven.

First meeting

On August 11, 2016, Ronaldo Cristiano and Georgina met in the Gucci store in Madrid, where Georgina was working at the time. Shortly after, they started dating, and in the following years, Georgina grew into one of the biggest influencers on Instagram, with 78 million followers. Exactly nine years later, again on August 11, Georgina announced their engagement in an Instagram post that went completely viral, especially due to the diamond ring estimated at 35 carats.

The big day

The ceremony did not take place at an estate or large wedding venue, but in the living room of their summer house in Cascais in the presence of family. They gave Vogue exclusive access to the big day, which was photographed by fashion photographer Juergen Teller, known for his unpolished style.

Before they got ready for the ceremony, they started the day with a workout. Georgina did not choose a wedding dress, but a white silk suit designed by Gucci, her former employer and the common thread in their love story. Underneath, she wore white satin Gucci shoes. Her jewelry came from the Garden of Kalahari collection by Chopard and certainly made a statement, with gigantic diamonds as eye-catchers.

Ronaldo wore a light beige cotton Gucci suit with a white shirt underneath and Gucci loafers. So no classic tuxedo, but a more relaxed look. The five children were also all dressed in white with matching Gucci shoes.

After the ceremony, the family went to a chapel in the Sanctuary of Fátima, where they attended a mass and a priest gave them a religious blessing. A big party with family and friends is still on the agenda, but for their ten-year anniversary, Ronaldo and Georgina wanted to keep it small.

“I want something intimate, together with my partner and our children, just at home. Castles, houses, islands, horses, and cars are within reach every day. But something intimate? That is much more exceptional for us,” Georgina told Vogue.

For a couple that has access to all the designers, locations, and facilities you can think of, I found their looks not as spectacular as expected. Georgina is usually known for her striking designer looks, but the ‘modesty’ seems to be a conscious choice in this case. The Vogue report looks quite anti-climactic in terms of style, but who knows, we might see some special looks at their larger wedding.
