The best sequel ever? All about The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere

For weeks it had been in the agenda: Tuesday, April 28, 2026, premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2 at Tuschinski in Amsterdam. The cinema that ultimately lends itself best for festive film happiness like this. Although I have heard from several sources that the theater sometimes gets visits from little rodents that come searching for a stray piece of popcorn during the show, I decide to wear my two-strap open-toe heels anyway. Fashion before comfort is the motto. Although dear Daan, my lovely plus one for tonight, has chosen closed ankle boots under her floor-length, butter yellow skirt, which she combines with a Marni shirt and a black blazer.
The look: fashion before comfort on the red carpet
I'm late, with a very The Devil Wears Prada-worthy reason: the dress that has been hanging ready for days just isn't doing it for me anymore. Too revealing and probably way too wrinkled by the time I roll out of Daan's Opel E-Rock. So it will be the black Sportmax dress that I, no matter how wonderful it is, have only worn once due to its extremely short hem. But let me just have found the perfect leggings at Wolford on King's Day that ensure that the person behind me climbing the stairs of Tuschinski doesn't look straight at my hem. Chanel bag included (I suddenly realize that I have almost no Prada in my closet. What am I saying? Nothing!) and off we go.
Red carpet atmosphere and audience at The Devil Wears Prada 2
Due to the time, Daan calls an Uber that drops us off at the corner of Rembrandtplein. On the carpet, it's a constant flow of extravagantly dressed people. Everyone is excited and really looking forward to it. Quite a rarity in premiere land, where I have often whispered in my ear, “I really don't feel like this, but I have to.” Not here. Everyone has watched part 1 again this weekend to refresh their memory, sneaks a glass of bubbles into the hall, and opens the bag of popcorn that the nice people from Disney have placed on our seat. So do we.
The film: cast, cameos, and first impression of The Devil Wears Prada 2
And yes, then it begins. The opening scene shows a precisely-as-you-want-it New York, with hard-hitting Dua Lipa underneath. Boom, we're in. And then a delightful story unfolds with Andy, Miranda, Nigel, Emily, lots of lovely cameos, of which the ones with Lady Gaga and Donatella Versace are my favorites. A plot that you could see coming a bit, but nonetheless is exactly the ending you hoped for.
Is The Devil Wears Prada 2 better than part 1?
As we walk out of the cinema towards the tram stop (yes yes, polder glamour in optima forma), I realize that it's the first time I found a part 2 better than part 1. Even better, even more fun. That begs for an ‘encore’. I will definitely go again this week with my daughters. And, let the makers promise us one thing: just make part 3 in five years. That’s all.
