5 SUPERFOODS you don’t yet know
Linseeds, chia seeds and raw chocolate don’t need any further explanation. Open Facebook, a magazine, Instagram or whatever. You’ll see them. There are however, new powders, flakes and herbs on the market to make you healthier and thinner. If you do your ‘30 days ab challenge‘ alongside them that is.
Teff, a little like oats. I add some to a little milk (rice, almond or cows milk, whatever you prefer) in a pot. Gently simmer for a few minutes and it’s ready to eat. Good with a bit of fruit or nuts added to it. Teff is free from wheat, gluten, cows milk, lactose, yeast, soya protein or oil, has no added salt, no refined carbohydrates or sugars. Well, if we can’t call this a superfood then I don’t know. Why is this one not yet trending on Instagram?
Kelp, looks like pasta but without wheat or carbs, and very low in calories. Heaven! It is made from brown seaweed and has a very high iron content. You can cook it or eat it raw. Make a salad from it or add some delicious tomato (pasta) sauce. Just like spaghetti. Also good for wok dishes as a replacement for mie or noodles.
You probably know it in the cream form. Works as a cooling agent on sunburnt skin. But you can also drink it, helps keep you regular. It keeps the kidneys clean by regulating the sugar levels, improves liver function, digestion and helps improve skin. It comes in many varieties, some with added flavours and sugar. So check the packaging. You can buy pure Aloë Vera at Indonesian food stores. Perfect for smoothies.
This poison-green detox powder is the absolute best for cleaning your liver. Chlorella is perfect for the day after. It’s full of vitamins, minerals and protein and ensures healthy intestines and digestion (so keeps you regular) and supports healthy sugar levels (so no dips and food cravings). This is definitely not something to eat as a snack by the teaspoon, you’ll probably throw up I’m afraid. Rather add it to your smoothie or yoghurt with muesli. It also comes in pill form.
Maca comes from Peru and is like a tiny energy bomb. Add a scoop to your smoothie and you’ll have all the minerals you need for the day. It contains a lot of iron and calcium . Perhaps nice to know, it also has a positive influence on your libido.
