Anna Drijver, is there anything she cannot do? She acts, sings, writes and also finished grammar school laughing. Someone I do envy a little bit. And did I mention that she is incredibly witty and has an excellent sense of style? Today, she shares with us her favourite spots in and outside the city of Amsterdam. So grab a pen and paper, because they are a lot of fun things and who knows, you might come across this gorgeous specimen in person.
Where does lunch, coffee and drinks go well?
“Betty Blue is a very nice, new coffee shop that made me very happy. They make all kinds of sandwiches, cakes and really anything with chocolate there themselves. A lot of it is raw, organic and with little or no sugar. They also sell coffee, bags and chutney you can take home.
On Hugo de Grootplein, you can also have your fun. Have a nice coffee at Coffee&Juices, delicious cocktails at Bar Hugo's, brasserie De Groot and good food at Orontes. You don't actually have to leave that square.”
Which restaurant do you go to if you want to be sure of good food?
“Just the other day I Bistrot Neuf discovered. It is also open on Sundays and Mondays, which is very nice for actors who are on stage the rest of the week. It is a lovely French-oriented restaurant with oysters and a wine I wanted more of so delicious. Luckily, the wine shop where this bottle came from is next door, Chabrol wines, so I immediately picked up a box.”
And a hangover? Where do you prefer to endure them? Do you have a perfect hangover breakfast?
“I am a steady breakfast eater, always a cappuccino with freshly ground beans. I love Simon Lévelt's Corleone espresso beans. And in the morning I put honey in my coffee, later in the day I never do. Quite crazy actually. I always breakfast with muesli, but a hangover breakfast Is a good old fried egg. With a slice of old cheese on top, of course. You're missing something if you don't.”
Where do you get time, peace and inspiration?
I love reading very much, there is always a book in my bag. I know there are e-books these days, but still. And series huh, whenever I can I watch a series on Netflix or DVD, addictive and lovely.
Where do you prefer to sit when the sun shines?
“I really like the Westerpark, especially now that there is also a branch of ‘t IJscuypje there, I like going there. In Noord the other day I swam at the café de Ceuvel, very nice atmosphere there.”
So you really do have a killer body. You sure are sweating a few times at the gym, aren't you?
“In summer, I enjoy running outside. Not very long or far and I always run the same round for a good half-hour. At the gym, I alternate yoga with bodyshape. In the morning I do ten minutes of sun salutations and in the evening abdominal exercises. Not that much but for a while so I feel it. Always I do, even when I'm tired or tipsy.”
There must be one city that always delivers when it comes to relaxing and getting new ideas. Which one is that and where do you hang out? Where do you sleep and where do you eat?
“I have been going to Venice with the same girlfriends for years. Every other year there is the art biennale there. That's really great and mega-inspiring because there are works of art by artists from all over the world. We now have our regular place to stay there and a restaurant on Punta Sabbioni where the owner welcomes us smiling every year. And with the bill, we get a whole slew of liqueurs and lemoncello Because he doesn't want us to leave.”
Is there an Anna look?
“I'll just pass this question on to my best friend who is coming to dinner with me. She says: A shirt with breton stripe, skinny jeans and high heels. Well voila.”
Where do you prefer to shop?
“At Denham the Jeanmaker they can really help you get a really nice pair of jeans, instead of being lost among a mountain of jeans in a fitting room. I find at Fillipa K also everything beautiful.
Where shoe shop on you prefer?
“For red carpets, I often choose nice heels from Steve Madden, or my lovely pair by Isabel Marant. But when I hop from appointment to appointment, it's often just in Nike trainers. Furthermore, I live All summer in my Havaianas. I just scored a new pair with Donald Duck on them. Here's the ultimate tip for on the beach or in a park: your glass is always firmly in your slipper.”
What is typically you?
“There are very often people over here, very cosy. I love setting a long table for ten friends, cooking, and then giggling with wine all evening. On Sundays, there are often all the guys sitting around watching Ajax.”
If you could catch the plane now. Where would you go?
“China. What a fascinating country that must be. Standing on the Great Wall of China, I think that's something.”
WHAT'S IN YOUR GLASS THIS SUMMER?
“Gin Tonic. I don't have a favourite yet but I enjoy Razmataz's extensive gin tonic menu to the max. That really takes the cake.”
What should more people do?
“Connecting with others on the street. Call it flirting, call it looking at people, but it makes life more fun. Kids do it too, I always get happy cycling around and watching people. My advice.”
