May-Britt looks back
Wat een amayzine jaar
Tonight we celebrate the first anniversary of amayzine.com. Exactly one year ago I sabred Jort Kelder the neck of a magnum bottle of champagne to officially open the site.
Whether it was exciting to start for myself and leave the sturdy Ministry of Magazines, I was asked at least once a day. Of course it was. No more at the end of the month that thickly paid editor-in-chief salary. And no more that bonus. And that car.
But I also no longer had that annoying pass that I was always losing and which was needed for every little thing you wanted to do. Pass, gates, and revolving doors, I don't miss those. Also not the swamp water spitting coffee machine and the security that came to check if everyone had gone home at five o'clock in the afternoon.
Because what we did have at amayzine.com was a super cool building. With a daylight studio. Colleagues (real men from ‘the’ TV, we magazine girls are not used to that), the best Nespresso, a fridge full of wine, and a company scooter.
And those invites for the shows just kept coming. And if Josselin I was not in the office for two days, there was a wall of beauty packages here. That didn't change at all.
We typed the shiny layer off our Airbooks, as when we worked outside the building our first question was; Do you have WIFI? To then ask if there was also a charging point nearby. We sent 5171 apps in our WhatsApp group. About us being in a photo with Johannes Huebl, or with David Beckham, the desperate bride of Peter Jan Rens and actually anything Peter Jan Rens, the passing of Oscar de la Renta and a thousand other things that we unfortunately, sorry cannot share with you.
If we had celebrated every success with champagne, Amayzine HQ would have moved to AA. And then we would probably have had Wim Kieft in the Look of the Day every Friday. While I taste-wise am closer to Fred van Leer.
I want to thank you. For reading, responding, coaching. I have never had so much interaction with readers/viewers/visitors. And this is just the beginning. Amayzine is only going to get more fun. Our next goal? Full throttle towards World Domination.
