This is how you get a toned body in 20 minutes

A workout that only lasts 20 minutes. And then no cardio training, but more strength exercises, so you mainly get tighter from that. Sounds like music to my ears. I saw it come by a lot with my Instagram friends, so I can't fall behind, you understand. And even better, Bodytec Lounge (that's the name of the gym) is right around the corner from me, so this morning I just cycled by.

“The bodytec is equivalent to three hours of working out in the gym, but here you’re out in half an hour. Especially for your people who have a busy life or don’t really enjoy spending hours in the gym, this is ideal.” And also very much for me, because besides the lot of cardio that I do, strength training sometimes gets neglected. By means of electrodes attached to your body, you get, how shall I put it, a kind of little shocks that tighten your muscles. Meanwhile, you do certain exercises that the instructor indicates. Lots of squats, lunges, and planking.

 Funny outfit

I received a short top with long sleeves to take to my changing room. Off with all my underwear and in my birthday suit, I stepped into the outfit. Then my body was sprayed with warm water. This is how the impulses (those little shocks) are best transmitted to the body.

 Almost game time

Over my underwear, I put on an ‘electrode vest’ with all kinds of very interesting red wires and buttons. Around my butt I got a kind of Tel Sell Abtronic band (you know what I mean, right?) that would make my butt shake quite a bit. Look, that’s what we need. I secured myself with a wire to the bodytec machine and the show could begin.

 Shake those buttocks

You sit with a maximum of four people in a group, which I find extremely nice and manageable. The machine starts and you feel your muscles being squeezed. Your body shakes, it’s a bit of a strange feeling, but not unpleasant. For four seconds, the impulses are emitted and then you have four seconds of rest. Very short intervals. This goes on for twenty minutes. The instructor gives you exercises and on the machine, you can increase the impulses a bit if you feel you can handle more.

 Quite a bit of sweat

They are very short simple exercises, but due to the impulses, it becomes much harder to swing your arms (by the way, you also hold a weight). Planking on the ground brought me to exhaustion. Just when you think: “Oh my god, how long is this going to last?” it’s already over.

 20 minutes that’s it

Immediately after the workout, it felt like I had been hanging on the weights in the gym for hours. Good work then. I got a delicious green protein shake for quick muscle recovery and I was also assured of muscle soreness in the coming days. Thank you.

 See you in a month

“If you do this training twice a week, you will absolutely see results quickly.” Well, bring it on, I immediately purchased a pass and I’ll let you know in four weeks how my process towards a tight killer body is going, okay?

And this is why bodytec (already) is so cool.

You can’t sign up for a subscription, but it works like an OV-chip card. You load money onto your card yourself and you come whenever you want. Every half hour (almost all day long) there is a class and you sign up via their app. The changing rooms are spick and span, the trainers and staff are very nice, and if you want, you can order a delicious smoothie afterwards. You pay 20 euros for a class, but if you come with multiple people, it’s a bit cheaper of course. So… shall we go together once?
