THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE SEX ONCE A WEEK

(and not more!)

_once-a-week-sex

Do you remember that program by Arie Boomsma still? It was called ‘Every Day Sex’. The couples were prepared as if they had to live on Robben Island for a month. “Are you sure you know what you're getting into?” Arie kept asking them while he drilled his eyes into their souls. I believe there were psychologists involved because oh la la, these people were going to have sex every single day. And that, you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. At least, that's how it seemed.

Without laying my entire sex life on the table here, it seems me having sex every day is not a punishment. At least if you have the time for it. Certainly not if it's with your own partner. That's someone you've chosen because you find them so pleasant and wildly attractive, right? Anyway, that program was one thing and according to all scientists, that's not so crazy, because having sex once a week seems to be the perfect amount.

A lot of sex makes you happy

So, three very important studies have been done on this involving thousands of people followed for more than thirty years. Let's start with the good news. Sex makes you happy. The more sex people have, the happier they are and the more they enjoy their relationship. And sex makes you want more sex. That's an upward spiral, I would say.

Sex makes you happier than money

Also nice to know. One of the researchers (Ms. Muise from the University of Toronto) studied couples who increased their sex frequency from once a month to once a week. That made them happier than if they went from earning £25,000 a year to £50,000. So we prefer to have sex 52 times rather than 12 Chanel bags.

Once a week is the max.

The more sex, the better you would think. But don't let yourself be fooled by that brooding man of yours who naturally always wants it much more than you. When couples had ‘made love’ more than once a week, they actually became less happy. They felt the pressure increase and enjoyed ‘the act’ less. So, once a week seems to be the perfect number.

Frustration

For many women, sex becomes a little thing. They have to fill the lunch boxes, order from Albert.nl, and fill out the student council form. Sometimes our heads just aren't really in the mood for sixty-nine or the Amazon position. My fashion friend Fred van Leer always says: “Look at the ceiling and fantasize about that Chanel bag.” It's not that we don't want it, sometimes there's just no space in our heads. According to scientists, you should let go of the frequency. It only hinders you.

Just have fun, have sex, and become even happier. Then you'll see that you do it more often and before you know it, Arie Boomsma is at your doorstep asking you ‘if you're really sure about it.’
