Things you need to invest in
and THINGS YOU SHOULD NOT SPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON
Ever spent a fortune on something that broke within three days? And it wasn't even your fault (which is often the case for me, by the way)? Or maybe you buy something that is super cheap, but actually you should spend a bit more money on it (but you're too stubborn for that), because then it lasts much longer and you end up saving money. Do you get it? I did a round on the editorial team about things you should invest in and things you really don't need to spend much money on that are just fine instead of the more expensive versions. Here we go:
Things worth investing in:
– Don't just buy a cheap blender for convenience. I swear, they really don't work as well as when you buy one from a better and slightly more expensive brand. Philips or Magimix, for example. Suppose you have a cheap one on your counter, then I bet you shake the device a bit while blending because not everything gets mixed well. And you probably also have to cut all the vegetables and fruits you put in it quite small for an optimal blend. That doesn't have to be the case if you spend a bit more money on it AND it will last much longer. Really. And I know what I'm talking about.
– It's incredibly annoying when your boobies don't get proper support while exercising. That sports bra might look really nice with fun colors and all, but good support is much more important. And by the way; Nike there are also really cheerful versions available.
– “If you spend a lot of money on expensive shoes you should also be willing to spend money on a good shoemaker.” Liesbeth knows what she's talking about. Maintenance is very important because then they last much longer. That's logical, of course, but choose someone who knows what they're doing and not a place where it costs next to nothing.
– It's a shame if you buy a bunch of flowers for two euros just because they're on sale. There's a good chance they'll wilt again after two days. Unless you know a store where they don't cost much and last a long time. And by the way, you shouldn't pay too much for a bunch of flowers either. That would be a waste too. Sorry, I'm making it complicated.
– Never buy cheap garbage bags. They tear, just always go for the ones from KOMO.
- A good blush brush. Now I'm the one in the editorial team who cares the least about makeup (I could probably do a bit more), but a good brush for my Chanel beige and Dior blush is worth its weight in gold to me. Really, buy a very good brush once, like from M.A.C Cosmetics, and you'll feel and see such a difference. A good brush costs around fifty euros, so be prepared for that.
– You have thousands of those fake iPhone charging cables. I buy them too. Don't do it, they break within a few weeks. You'd be better off buying a real one, and that will last you a lifetime.
Things you really don't need to spend that much money on and that are still perfectly fine.
– Batteries, as cheap as possible and they last quite a long time.
– The same goes for light bulbs. Can just be from the store brand.
– Let's stick with household items for a bit, because cling film, aluminum foil, sandwich bags, etc.: just put the cheapest items in your shopping basket.
– I'm also very happy with my cleansing milk. I believe it costs no more than three euros. Of course, those from Chanel and Estée Lauder are fantastic and look a bit nicer in the bathroom, but I haven't won the lottery yet. Unfortunately.
– Tampons. The B-brands are just as good as the A-brands.
