BRAIDING

5 ways to upgrade your braid

The braid virus has hit the editorial team quite hard. Whenever we have a bit of a moment without inspiration, we quickly start braiding. So, it has actually become a standard part of the workday that by the end of the day everyone leaves the office with a new hairstyle. Those braids, they are of course super trendy and have walked straight off the catwalk. So, if you have a moment of boredom at the office? Just grab someone by the hair and inspiration will come your way again.

1. Dubbel trouble

If you thought that two braids are only for twelve-year-olds, you are completely mistaken. Alexa Chung has breathed new life into the two braids a few years ago, and since then you see the look coming back more and more on the catwalk. They start with two braids and eventually end up in one beautiful ponytail, giving it a royal look. Hair accessories should definitely be incorporated.

2. Lay it on

Seems super easy and it is. It's actually a simple braid, but the trick is to get it straight and then without hesitation pull out some strands to give yourself an undone look. Especially on your crown, some strands can definitely dance around. That's when you give your braid an extremely cool twist.

3. The hairband

Antonio Marras sent the models down the catwalk with a braid as a hairband. That can be quite easy, by securing a braid with pins over the forehead. At Hervé Léger it seems a bit more complicated, but basically, you just see a nice braid. Very handy if your bangs are just a tad too long and you want to cleverly work them away.

4. Meerdere vlechten

This is like the Alexa Chung, only the 2016 version. So really multiple braids. It’s allowed. But on the condition that something really happens with the rest of the hair. The top of the braids is ingeniously twisted, making the hairstyle playful is really an understatement. This is just very cool. The festival look of this summer.

5. Bovenop

In several shows, you saw that the braid is razor-thin and incredibly tight on the head. So actually the opposite of the undone braids: here you really have to work very tightly and precisely.
