7 WAYS TO WAKE UP THE HAPPIEST
I am a huge early bird. Usually, I have already jumped out of bed before the alarm even goes off. That's wonderful because it gives me extra time for a long shower, a breakfast, or a moment to lose my decluttering frenzy total self. Believe me, I can thrive on that all day long because you are neither snacking at eleven o'clock nor do you have a song stuck in your head all day (which makes you instantly happy), and you come home to a completely tidy house after work, giving you plenty of time for other fun things. So set that alarm ten minutes earlier, pick something from the list below, and you'll see that you've conquered your morning mood.
1. Music
Before I jump out of bed, I always turn on the music via my phone. When I walk into the living room, I can already hear Edwin Evers chattering in my ear with his golden laugh, and that is very contagious. Sometimes I just feel bummed that I have to shower and can't listen to the interview or song any longer. Sometimes, I said sometimes. But recently I have something new. Music during the shower. It makes shower time a bit shorter (because you have to try to shower within one song), but it's so incredibly fun, and you never have to miss anything again. Showering with some music on is actually just a bit like dancing at a rainy festival. And no one has ever become unhappier from that.
2. Workout
Unfortunately, I did not inherit the genes and discipline of Simone and Jet, who often get up during the week to exercise in the morning. But the times I have done it (why, why didn't I stick with it?) I felt incredibly good. Good that you stepped out of bed to work out for an hour and good because you actually put on a sports outfit. You can give yourself pats on the back all day long, and you've already checked off the most dreadful task early in the morning.
3. Morning sex
Well, that's certainly not a dreadful task you have to check off in the morning, but it is just really nice. And you can also see it as a substitute for that workout , so that's a perfectly fine alternative. Nice side effects are the healthy blush on your face, your muscles that have been shaken loose, and all those butterflies (if you do the morning workout with your partner at least) that keep fluttering around you for the rest of the day. Oh, and the more intense, the happier, of course.
4. Makeup moment
A red lip, an amazing eyebrow, or a well-done eye: it makes you happy. If you take a moment for your makeup, it will look good all day long, and you won't have to worry at all when you take a glance in the mirror. Not much time? Then just take a look here on how to create a fresh look on your face in five or ten minutes.
5. A good blow-dry
I have also been guilty of entering the workplace with wet hair. I was immediately asked if I had stuck my head in the deep fryer. That should not happen again, and since then I neatly blow-dry my hair every morning. Or I pay a visit to The Building for a perfect blow-dry. And that does me a world of good.
6. Tidying frenzy
Oh, that really makes me very happy. Straightening the bed, tidying up clothes, sometimes finishing a load of laundry... It's just wonderful to come home to a tidy and clean house. Very nice and calming.
7. Breakfast in bed
I personally find breakfast in bed really terrible. It always sounds incredibly nice, but in the meantime, you see hundreds of crumbs gathering in bed, you spill jam on your brand new duvet, and the gravy drips the wrong way. What is important, however, is to just make plenty of time for your breakfast. It fills you up a lot, and you don't start snacking at eleven o'clock. Also nice: drink three glasses of water right away. One when you wake up and two with breakfast. You are immediately well-hydrated, and your hydration level for the rest of the day is also set. Hydrating is good for health and seriously good for the skin.
