This way you know in eight steps if you are an organized person

Oh, I remember so well that we started at Amayzine in this brand new white office and that we immediately embraced the ‘clean desk policy’. We would never leave clutter on our desks again and a euro would be thrown into the pot if it became even a little unmanageable. If we had stuck to this from day one, I would have been sitting in the Maldives by now. Forever. My desk pad is reasonably clean, the desks I have a view of are far from it. It's not even kept secret, because Jet certainly knows her middle name messy is. Do you also think that you, like me, are the most organized type in the office? Do the check. And who knows, you might end up with me in the Maldives.

Check 1

Have you completely cleaned your desk one afternoon, and the next day someone else sits in your regular spot? That's fine if someone wants to sit at your freshly cleaned workspace, but not so fine if that person leaves their dirty coffee cup behind, scatters their notes, and doesn't wipe away the crumbs. You get incredibly annoyed and immediately start waving thirty disinfecting wipes to clean things up a bit. Better is that you leave those on your desk as a standard to give the person in question some pointed hints.

Check 2

Things must have fixed places. You have a designated container for pens, you know exactly where to find toothpicks, and the scissors haven't grown legs. If it's in that place, it immediately brings peace to your mind. And you also get steam coming out of your ears if someone puts it back in the wrong place and totally messes up your organized system.

Check 3

You become restless from clutter. I don't think that's very strange, because you are an organized type. So when it comes to the workplace, it's so nice to have your desk completely clean. When you look at other desks, it starts to itch a little and you become extremely restless.

Check 4

Have you changed something in your house? Then a slight panic arises. Because you do want a bit of change, but probably change equals drastic tidying up for you, and so a day later you no longer remember where you had neatly organized everything. Then you have to turn everything upside down again, find the things you were looking for, and start all over again.

”From now on, I am available for personal tidying advice and an expert when it comes to evaluating organized desks”

Check 5

You get incredibly annoyed when other people use something up but then don't replenish it. So you're sitting on the toilet and there's still one sheet left on the roll,

but a new one is nowhere to be found. Or a jar of Nutella is put back in the cupboard completely empty. Or all your post-its have been plundered from your desk but no new stack is put back. Or...

Check 6

Other people must stay far away from your clutter. Actually, clutter doesn't exist in your vocabulary, but even you have a day when you don't leave things tidy. And then it's really annoying when other people start rummaging through your stuff and trying to create some order in it. You prefer to do that yourself. Organizers know what you're talking about, so it's often done by the semi-messy ones, which only makes things worse afterwards. Stay. Just. With. Your. Paws. Off. My. Stuff.

Check 7

People start tidying up but then don't finish it. So at that beginning, you do a little happy dance because you think it's finally going to happen. But if after three hours the clutter has just been shifted or the result is already hard to find after a day, then that happy dance ends in a scene of sadness because it’s never going to change. You are and remain the tidying queen.

Check 8

Mail? You always handle it immediately. Or it might stack up for just a moment, but then you go through the mail like crazy, organize the important matters, and settle bills right away. In any case, you are not a huge stacker who keeps piling until it falls over to then make several stacks from it. You absolutely do not recognize yourself in that.

The result? Well, for me, it's just a score of ten out of ten. Hopsa, it won't get any better than that, even if you polish it with three cloths. From now on, I am available for personal tidying advice and an expert when it comes to evaluating organized desks. But actually tidying up your desk? I don't do that. See point 6. So just get started, learn from it, and take the test again in a month. Maybe you can then apply to me and we can start a tidying agency together. On the Maldives of course.
