RENSKES HATE-LOVE RELATIONSHIP WITH THE HOME QUOTE

Look, I know of course that in better interior circles it really can't (anymore), such a home quote on the wall. Everyone and everything has them and often they are the same quotes too. But I need to get something off my chest. Sometimes I am unexpectedly touched by such a quote.

Let's be clear that I'm not talking about the letters ‘HOME’, which you sometimes see sitting somewhere in the windowsill. I don't think that's something you need to be reminded of. Like: ‘Guys, in case we all forget: this here, this is our HOME!’ Oh dear, yes, gosh, I was already searching for it.

But there are enough texts that sometimes suddenly resonate with me. Especially at moments when I feel a bit wobbly or unstable. Recently, while I was in a somewhat unstable state due to a work situation, I visited a friend, and they had the text ‘Don’t Forget To Be Awesome’ hanging in the bathroom. I looked at the text, then at a rather unstable face (in the mirror) and thought: YES. This is just incredibly true. I may be acting unstable and everything, but I just need to put my shoulders to the wheel and be f*ing awesome!!

Awesome.

I have the same with ‘Smile, there’s wine’. I've come across it several times now. And there are also some great variations, such as ‘You Cook, I Will Drink Wine’. I mean, what a party of recognition. It's so purifying that a glass of wine is also a solution for many other people. Disclaimer: of course, for obvious reasons, you shouldn't drink two or three bottles every day, but anyway, I'm getting off track.

As a cherry on top, I was even a bit moved recently by, you won't believe it, Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. ‘How do you spell love? You don’t spell it, you feel it.’ And then with a very sweet drawing alongside. Really, you could sweep me up. I should mention that I had a hangover and then things hit harder. You know it, I know it. But still.

Anyway: sometimes you can love something while you just know that it's a bit wrong. But hey, we actually knew that a long time ago.
