Fun & Famous
THE BOOKS YOU'VE NEVER FLIPPED THROUGH
Now that I've sold my house, the most fun part begins. The search for a house (which is actually quite a thing), but especially the furnishing of my potential future home. I love Pinterest-plates that you can say wow about, making mood boards at home with beautiful pictures, and immediately heading to the ‘living’ corner in a bookstore, where I'm quite busy gathering inspiration. But one thing I've promised myself (besides wanting a large beautiful kitchen, a couch where you can binge-watch Netflix for hours, and a god-awful rain shower... oh, and a south-facing garden and a vegetable patch and a design chair from Hay) is that I want a corner where I can put a coffee table book open. I find that very chic. This way, you always have inspiration with you. Well, and you probably have the urge to change your home every week. But okay, that's a concern for later.
Monochrome Home: Elegant Interiors in Black and White Hardcover
Hilary Robertson
As you know, I am incredibly a fan of black and white. The only problem is that when you add it to your interior, it can also go quite wrong. Because just black and just white can quickly become very cold and thus distant. And thus a house where you actually don't feel at home at all. Hilary Robertson shows you how it can go right. Also nice: you encounter different styles in it. So from classic to very modern; black and white can always work.
When art meets design
Hunt Slonem
Hunt Slonem is truly an artist of the highest level. He is a painter, makes objects, and the most fantastic prints. In this book, you get a glimpse into his homes. And since Hunt Slonem is not afraid of a bit of color, that's also what you can expect. They are all small (although: small?) museums that you walk into.
The New Bohemians: Cool and Collected Homes
Justina Blakeney
The name bohemian immediately tells you what to expect. Color, prints, and a colorful collection that just happens to match very well together. Now, that might come across as a huge jumble, but interior designer Justina Blakeney has made her expertise out of that. So very responsible bohemian homes, making you head straight to HEMA to grab some color.
Valentino: At the Emperor’s Table
Valentino
He is already prominently on the cover to guide you into his home, so it doesn't get more accessible than this. And so this book is one big Valentino-paradise where you can peek into every corner and room.
Modern Mix: Curating Personal Style with Chic & Accessible Finds
Eddie Ross
Anyone who shops at a flea market or is a good bargain hunter at garage sales knows that you can really find golden bargains there. You just have to know how, but it can yield special finds. In this book, you see all those beautiful finds together. Because that can really create a very special scene.
Louis Vuitton: Architecture and Interiors
Frederic Edelmann
The stores of Louis Vuitton are not just stores. Hallelujah, these are stores that make quite an impression.
A Frame For Life: The Designs of StudioIlse
Ilse Crawford
There should also be some Dutch pride in this list. Now you might think of Piet Hein Eek (also true Dutch pride, but you probably already have that book at home), but we are really talking about Ilse Crawford. Okay, maybe not entirely Dutch, actually just very British, but she did study at the Design Academy in Eindhoven. All good, Ilse is just cool. She is a designer, creative director, and basically everything you need to be if you are endowed with a hefty dose of taste. She designs furniture and products that you need in daily life together with her team. There is a touch of Scandinavian inspiration in that, leading to insane products.
The Book
Osiris Hertman
This book is too beautiful to be closed in a cabinet. Hertman graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven and is now the designer of a lot of cool interior accessories. That man has taste. Just the book itself looks amazing, just look at the ‘golden’ pages.
