WHAT DO YOU WEAR DURING
A BOOTCAMP
“Jet, I just did a bootcamp and it was wonderful, I'm going again next Saturday!” Somehow, people always love to tell me that they ate something super healthy or worked out really hard. If someone ordered a club sandwich or is hungover from 10 liters of gin and tonic I don't hear about that. But anyway, that's beside the point.
I was just talking about May, who put on her gear to follow a bootcamp class in the park around the corner. “Wow, that was quite different from an hour of indoor exercise. You have more rest there and do a lot of easier exercises on the floor, this was a bit tougher.” And what I always find, especially when it rains (which was the case with May): you really feel like a soldier. I find the fresh air much nicer than a stuffy gym and it also feels much healthier. What you wear during such a class in the park is an important point, because it's different than indoors. You have to do a lot of planks on the grass and what if it rains? And, also not unimportant: it all has to look a bit nice too.
Work in this weather with gloves. Choose a pair from the sports department, otherwise you'll quickly get sweaty hands.
Opt for a very lightweight jacket that is waterproof. You keep this on at first and if you get warm, you can tie it around your waist. It's also handy if it rains.
Don't dress too warmly when you go out, even if it's cold outside. You warm up so quickly and I personally find it very annoying to train with a lot of clothes on. And make sure you can take something off, and not just one thick sweater.
A small hairband is not a luxury, it keeps your loose strands out of your face during the roll.
You can also just buy a collar in a sports store. I always use that when I train outside. Thick sweaters make you warm too quickly, so in that case, you can just wear a T-shirt, but with such a collar, you can cover your neck.
Invest in good tights. My favorite brand Nike has so many different types in the cutest colors and specifically for outdoor training. For example, the Nike Pro Hyperwarm Limitless. It retains warmth and wicks away sweat, so you stay warm and dry during winter workouts. Also, make sure there is a small pocket in the pants for your house keys. You can just leave your phone at home.
