 10 ways to soothe itching


I can still hear myself saying to my complaining colleague: ‘Mosquitoes? No, not a problem.’ With a little laugh afterwards. And yes, three days in a row broken nights followed. Because of the terror mosquito. Recently, I told you how to keep your room mosquito-free. But what if the damage is already done and you've been taken by the miserable little creature? One thing is certain: once you start scratching, it seems like the itch only gets worse . Prevent scratching and use these tips to soothe the itch.

1. Apply, apply, apply

A dry skin itches more. Therefore, apply a good moisturizing cream to your skin in the morning and evening.

2. Don’t scratch but…

Try to soothe the itch by gently pressing or tapping on the itchy spots.

3. Keep short

Keep your nails short so you can't scratch at all.

4. Not too hot

Try not to shower too hot and don’t use too much soap. Both can cause even more itching.

5. Cinnamon

I mean, what is my addiction not good for? Mix a tablespoon of yogurt with cinnamon and apply it thinly to your itchy spot. Probiotics in yogurt have a natural healing effect. This combination helps reduce swelling, lessen the itch, and heal infections. Make a paste by mixing 1 teaspoon of honey with 2 teaspoons of water, 1 tablespoon of yogurt, and half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder. Then apply the mixture to the skin and you will immediately notice relief.

6. Keep it cool

Itching decreases when you keep the skin cool. So wrap some ice cubes in a tea towel and dab it on the itchy area of the skin.

7. In the bath

Are you really completely bitten? Then fill a bath and add a cup of oat bran and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Sounds gross (okay, it is a bit), but you will see that it immediately soothes the itch. Just rinse off with cold water and apply a nice cream afterwards.

8. Basil

Fresh basil is not only delicious in your pasta or over your caprese, it is also one of the most effective herbal remedies for a mosquito bite. Crush some basil in a bowl and then apply it directly to the skin.

9. Purify

Baking soda works wonders for your body. Mix a full teaspoon of baking soda with 250 ml of lukewarm water. Then dab a few times with a cotton ball on the itchy spot and rinse off with water.

10. Peppermint

When you're done brushing your teeth, squeeze some toothpaste onto your skin as well. Apply it over your mosquito bite and let it sit. You will see that after a few minutes the itch disappears.
