Pisteproof makeup in 5 steps

After my skiing trip in Italy, I can tell you: it is still incredibly difficult to look even a little bit appetizing when you're sliding down the slopes. Look, that outfit is of course number 1 (read here how to stay fashionable while skiing), but the beauty rituals are at least just as important. And that's why it's time for a lesson in pisteproof makeup.

A good sunscreen

What turns out? About 41 percent of young people rarely or never use sunscreen while skiing. But do you know how quickly you can get sunburned on your ski trip because snow reflects sunlight? A red nose is anything but sexy when you get home. My rule? At least three times a day to apply. Once in the morning in the cabin, once after the 11 o'clock snack, and then again around three o'clock. And if you apply enough, you'll arrive with a nice tanned skin that the stay-at-homes will be jealous of. Sounds nice, right? So just skip the foundation.

That waterproof mascara

It's the horror of every pishonista: arriving in the valley looking like a panda bear. You don't want that, so a good waterproof mascara is a must. My three favorites?
1. Inimitable waterproof, €31.95, Chanel
2. Volume Million Lashes Waterproof Mascara, €17.49, L’Oréal Paris
3. Diorshow Black Out waterproof, €33.95, Dior

Lip balm with SPF

Make sure you always have a fat-based balm in your ski jacket. Your lips have a lot to endure with that biting cold and those dry flakes = hell = you don't want that on vacation. And despite the fact that you might not realize it, lips burn very quickly in the snow sun. So apply. I personally like the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Lip Protection always nice (€8.95) and the Bobbi Brown Lip Balm SPF15 is also a keeper (€24.00).

Hand cream

Gloves on, then off, then on again, then warm, then cold. Say hello to skiing. Don't forget to occasionally massage your hands with hand cream? They like that. According to Elke, & Other Stories has the best one on earth.

Eyeliner/eyepencil issues?

I thought beforehand that this would cause mega troubles. Because as you know: I am the captain of Team Eyeliner. But no, my all-time best cheapest eyeliner from HEMA ever (€3.00) that isn't even supposed to be waterproof, survived the ski storm without a problem. I expected nothing less from her. Oh, and if you prefer pencils, I just read that the Rimmel Scandal’Eyes kohl pencils (€7.49) are also very pisteproof. Have fun, okay!
