Are you doing Dry January?
How to survive that
I tried it last year. I managed to stick to it for exactly 28 days without breaking it. You know what? Just give me a Dry February. January is just so horrifically full of all those New Year's parties and I have no backbone, so no, I can't turn down a glass of wine or bubbles or whatever. But luckily, you do have people with a backbone who smoothly get through the month. If you ask them, these are the absolute best tips to stay dry (ha!) the whole month:
If you're at an event, focus on the conversations you're having
Be more involved in conversations and the people around you, ask more questions and be social. You're then more focused on everyone around you than on the fact that you don't have a drink in your hand.
Find a new hobby
Dive into something you've never done before. Surfing for example, because yes, you can do that in winter too. I've even been told that it's actually much better now. Higher waves, less crowded... Or rowing. Yes, you might think: boring, but believe me, this can also be fun if you gather a nice group of people. And uh, killer body in the making.
Your productivity increases
Are you by any chance making New Year's resolutions? Something about going to the gym more often? Well, that's a lot easier without a hangover. And in any case, your productivity level rises because you sleep better, you're energized, you have a tidy and clear mind and overall you're more focused.
Don't make it a big deal
So you're drinking water and juices for a month? Fine. Especially if you make it a big deal, you'll get even more comments about it and you'll have people around you trying to persuade you to have that one glass of wine after all.
Drunk people are annoying anyway
At least, if they fall into the Mr. Hyde category. No idea what I'm talking about? Here the four types of drunk people. Which one are you?
Don't try to catch up on everything on February 1st
When you can finally drink again, keep it to just one or two drinks at first.
You glow
Not that you didn't before, but no alcohol works wonders for your skin. Alcohol dries out your skin, so take it out of your repertoire and you'll have a well-hydrated skin again.
You save money
Because a sparkling water, a glass of soda or a regular cup of coffee is and remains a lot cheaper than wine, beer and all those Moscow mules.
You lose weight from it
Unless you're compensating the alcohol with something else. But less alcohol = fewer calories you consume.
Are you still struggling? Here are even more reasons why you should better leave that glass of alcohol alone.
