Movie tip of the week: The Sun Is Also A Star you want to see

I know that you are mainly used to Netflix tips from me, but today I'm going to encourage you to go to the cinema again. Well, I never really find that a punishment, mainly because I always find the popcorn in the Pathé cinemas tastier than when you make it at home (or buy it ready-made). You also pay a fortune for it, but then it is nice and salty. And every now and then there is a movie that is worth seeing on the big screen instead of your little TV at home.
And that movie is The Sun Is Also A Star, starring Charles Melton a.k.a. Reggie from Riverdale a.k.a. the real-life lover of Veronica. He plays Daniel, with the special last name Bae. He also wants to be Natasha's Bae. That role is reserved for Yara Shahidi, of whom this is her very first big role (before this, she mainly played small parts in, among others, Scandal and Salt). Natasha is a character who is concerned with science, hard facts, and anything but fate and destined loves, because she believes in that.
You might guess, that changes when she bumps into Daniel in the busy streets of New York City — aahh — for both of them, it's love at first sight. Daniel is also not the type to easily get swept away by this kind of infatuation; he is the exemplary student who does his best to meet his parents‘ high expectations. A bit of ’forbidden' love, and it becomes even more complicated because Natasha's parents are being deported 12 hours later. Back to Jamaica. Yes, grab the tissues. This is going to be crying.
It comes down to the fact that Daniel and Natasha only have one day together. And so they spend that day together, to see if it's really possible to fall completely in love in just one day. I must honestly admit that the ending is still unknown to me, but it can hardly be anything other than a happy ending, right? Maybe Daniel will chase after her, or they will meet again after a few years or so. They are seniors in high school, so the chasing scenario is not very realistic... By the way, it is an adaptation of a book with the same name, so if you have read that already; no spoiling please.
If you, as a Riverdale fan, want more movie tips, definitely check out Five Feet Apart with Cole Sprouse in the lead role. It’s also about a ‘forbidden’ love, but now because both characters are undergoing treatment for an illness. So don’t put those tissues away just yet, this is also definitely a tearjerker. And if you want to finish your tear-jerking evening, The Last Summer with KJ Apa in the lead role is super sweet, and also guarantees a tear or two. The Riverdale boys are definitely keeping busy.
