Tip tip tip: Top Boy on Netflix

Drugs remains something that keeps us fascinated. Not to use, I mean, but to watch. Breaking Bad— did the trend start with that? —, Narcos, How To Sell Drugs Online, Limitless… That’s just a small part of the drug series that Netflix has to offer. And we can add another one, this time from the British TV scene. In Top Boy, two drug dealers are central who operate from East London and you guessed it; It. Is. Fun. And addictive by the way. A responsible addiction.

The most striking thing about Top Boy is first of all the different seasons. There are already three and oh yes, all nicely available on Netflix. The first two seasons came out in 2011 and 2012 and are under the name Top Boy: Summerhouse. Then it seemed to be over for Top Boy, but there was saving angel Netflix who picked it up and released a new season this year and produced it themselves. This ‘third‘ season is easy to watch separately by the way. So let it depend on your binge mood how many seasons you take along. I’ve done all three and didn’t expect anything less from myself. In those three seasons, it was laughing, being amazed by the stories and yes, also crying.

The second striking detail of Top Boy is the producer. Yes, that’s Netflix, but that is also Drake. Started from the bottom now we’re here. That Drake. The one you can call on your cell phone. The one who constantly wonders if Kiki still loves him. You know who I mean. Not that this is immediately a guarantee for a great series, but this is the first one I see from executive producer a.k.a. Drake and I think it’s really cool. So far a 100% success rate.

Very silly, I had to get used to the British accent versus drug dealers. I associate(d) such a posh accent mainly with upper-class Englishmen, not so much with quite ruthless dealers. Well, that association is at least over. Another side of London shows that as well.

Final verdict: I definitely give it an 8.5. A 9-. I don’t know, but I was just very happy with that at school. So watch it.
