Officially royal no more: Meghan removes titles from daughter Lili

Meghan Markle waving

That Meghan and Harry had to say goodbye to their royal titles was of course already known for a while. I must honestly say that I absolutely do not understand any of those royal titles, no matter how hard I try. I find it all quite complicated: Meghan and Harry stepped out of the family, but were still allowed to use titles, until that was put to a stop and Highness could no longer be used in their name. As for Meghan, because Harry was allowed to use them again. Are we still following? Son Archie did have a chance to become a prince, but as it looks now, grandpa Charles is putting a stop to that. He wants the monarchy to be a bit smaller and cheaper, so Archie would therefore be left out regarding royal titles.

The chance that daughter Lili would indeed receive a royal title also became a lot smaller, but this time Meghan and Harry are taking a step back themselves. The birth certificate has been made public (well, made... Lili was born in California and such documents are often public there anyway) and TMZ has published it. It shows that the couple consciously did not add titles for Lili, something they would have done for Archie.

The birth certificate states that her dad is The Duke of Sussex, His Royal Highness, or Harry, and her mother is Rachel Meghan Markle. Indeed striking: this means that Meghan is officially using her maiden name again and no royal title is mentioned anymore.

That may not sound very dramatic, but if you are a bit familiar with The Firm (how the British royals and their staff are also referred to), then you know that this is quite exceptional. And well, for us it is indeed not that special. Just do it, I would say. Meghan Markle sounds much easier too.
