It's easy to place all the blame for your failed date on the other person, but maybe you have a bingo card full of disaster dates because you approach your first date routine all wrong. First, meet up with a friend
By planning multiple social interactions in one day, you take the pressure off your first date. Meeting up with a friend beforehand can help you express (and thus release) your nerves, shift your thoughts, and you will almost certainly leave that meeting with some general conversation topics for during your date. If you don't have time to meet, just call your best friend, or have a FaceTime chat while getting ready. So cozy!

Eat something beforehand
Yes, even if you're so nervous that you shouldn't even think about it. Even if it's just something small, always make sure you've eaten so you don't show up hangry on your date. The chances are high that if you arrive on an empty stomach, you'll find your date less enjoyable than if you had eaten. The result? You'll undoubtedly enjoy each other's company less and also attack the food like a starving person once it arrives. Sexy is different.

Choose the right playlist
In my single years, my getting ready playlist was absolutely sacred, so I completely understand this tip. Create a playlist with all the songs that make you feel confident and blast it through your speakers while you get ready. You'll notice that you step out the door as the best version of yourself.

Years ago, I received the best tip ever: never buy a new outfit for a first date. The reason? With new clothes, you only know how it really fits after you've worn it a few times. Maybe you can't sit comfortably in that beautiful but way too tight dress. Or maybe your heels are just a bit too high, making you think about nothing but the pain in your feet all evening. Having a first date uniform takes away all that stress. Choose an outfit that you feel good in and adjust it for the season. No more clothing stress for you!

Oh, the wonderful power of affirmations. I personally love them. The best affirmation you can say to yourself? ‘It's not about whether they like you, it's about whether you like the other person.’ This one sentence frees you from all the need for validation and nerves to come across as well as possible. You're just fun, and you really should accept that about yourself. The most important judgment of the evening is whether you like the other person just as much and not the other way around.
