Does this viral mask on TikTok work like botox?

By

Here I am again with my TikTok hacks, but I can't help it. This app is such a learning experience for me that I feel like I'm gaining more from it than during all my years in high school. Earlier this year, according to the experts, we had to apply protein to our faces to combat clogged pores; this time it's the turn of a homemade face mask that is said to have the same effects as a Botox treatment. Sounds almost too good to be true, but is it?

The mask consists of two ingredients: flaxseed and water. In the beauty world, flaxseed is already a product that has been known longer than today. It works as both an anti-aging and antioxidant. It contains exactly the essential fatty acids needed for the health of your hair, skin, and nails, and keeps your body overall well-hydrated. Additionally, it is used for ailments such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, and scars. In short: a little miracle remedy.

Making the mask is very simple. Use one cup of flaxseed and add two cups of water. Let it simmer on a fire in a pot until it comes to a boil. You will see that a slimy substance forms, and that is exactly what you need. Remove the pot from the heat and let it cool down well so that the mask can thicken even more. When it feels like slime, take out your cheesecloth and squeeze the substance through this cloth to avoid having seeds in your mask, et voilà.

And then it's time to apply it. Of course, make sure your skin is completely makeup-free so that the mask can do its job well. I warn you in advance: applying it feels a bit strange at first, but if you massage it well into the skin, you will see that it just sticks. Oh, and don't forget your neck as this area is often overlooked. If you really want to go full circle, you can even use the mask in your hair if your dry locks need a little extra love. Only when the mask is completely dry can you wash it off.

Does it really work against wrinkles like some TikTokers swear? According to dermatologists, we can really forget about that. The tightening of the skin from the mask may feel like a few milliliters have just been injected, but ultimately this is only temporary. For it to really work like Botox, it would need to contain a certain substance that stops nerves in your skin from communicating with your muscles. This is the effect of Botox, and flaxseed does not contain this. Unfortunately.

Do you really prefer a tighter skin instead of just hydrated skin? Then frownies are what you want to start with.
