Chicken Shop Date with Amelia Dimoldenberg stops

Say goodbye to chicken nuggets, awkward silences, and the most uncomfortable (but hilarious) celebrity dates on the internet: Chicken Shop Date is ending. Host Amelia Dimoldenberg has announced that after more than twelve years, she will be ending her YouTube show. Fortunately, we will still get a few last dates.
After more than twelve years, she is putting an end to the show that transformed Amelia from a somewhat awkward YouTube presenter into an internationally recognized name. In total, she made more than a hundred episodes and had just about everyone who matters at her table at some point. From Cher and Jennifer Lawrence to Billie Eilish, Paul McCartney, and Andrew Garfield.
And yes, that last name was in an episode that stuck with people. But more on that later.

From chicken restaurant to Hollywood
The concept actually sounds absurdly simple: Amelia takes a celebrity on a date in a chicken shop. Chicken nuggets are eaten, awkward silences fall, and Amelia asks questions that you wouldn't hear so quickly during a ‘normal’ interview. Why? You might wonder. But that's exactly her trademark.
Where other interviewers pull out all the stops to put a star at ease, Amelia lets the silence fall comfortably. Sometimes a bit too comfortably, making it mega awkward. Then she looks at her date as if they both just forgot why they are even sitting there.
And this works. Chicken Shop Date has grown into one of the most well-known celebrity formats on YouTube, now with over 3.4 million subscribers. The series also helped make YouTube a more serious place where big stars went for their promotional rounds.
And then there was of course Andrew Garfield
Because when I say Chicken Shop Date, I immediately think of the episode with Andrew Garfield. In that episode, there was an intense tension between the two. The internet went crazy, and the question has been playing for years: is this an interview or are we actually watching a bizarre slow burn romcom?
Their encounters went viral and became part of the now-iconic Amelia universe. The press couldn't help but keep speculating about that eternal will they/won’t they. Amelia once described Chicken Shop Date as her own romcom. And we see that too.

Why is she stopping?
That might be the biggest question. Amelia herself says that it is mainly time for a new adventure. She wrote on her Instagram that she never thought she would stop and that the show will always be a part of her, but that she wants to move on now. Before she says a final goodbye, a few last episodes are still coming.
She now has enough other things to sink her teeth into. Over the past few years, Amelia has long been more than just ‘the girl from those chicken interviews’. She has hosted the red carpet multiple times at the Oscars, made a cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and is working on a romantic comedy for Amazon MGM. Additionally, she is developing a young adult series for the BBC that she describes as her version of Skins.
One last serving of chicken nuggets then?
Fortunately not right away. Amelia has promised that a few last dates are coming before she definitively says goodbye to the format. This is also stated in her Instagram bio. Who will be sitting across from her at the table is not all known yet.
