Science says: this is why we flirt, kiss, and have sex more in the summer

Flirting in the summer

Here it is finally: summer has officially begun. Now we have been happily spoiled with radiant weather for a number of weeks, but the beginning of summer is always something to me to drink to. Why? With the rising temperatures, we spontaneously start flirting, kissing, and having sex more, and those just happen to be the things I love to write about. Are you single (or not) and noticing that the summer heat ignites your desires? Then you are not alone. Sultry summer evenings are simply perfect for flirtatious conversations and exciting dates, but there is also a scientific aspect to why we are more easily seduced in the summer.

The sun
The rays of the sun have a positive effect on our mood. They stimulate the production of endorphins, which gives us a feeling of happiness and euphoria and is comparable to the feeling of falling in love. Additionally, the sun on your skin promotes the production of serotonin and caffeine, making you feel cheerful, relaxed, and energetic without needing to make a trip to Starbucks.

Hormones
Letting yourself be guided by your hormones is not just something for modern teenagers. Adults can also, especially in summer, be completely taken over by their hormones. It probably won't surprise you, but especially men are sensitive to this. In summer, men produce more testosterone, making them feel more masculine, hornier, and fall in love faster. A case of ‘mothers, keep your daughters indoors’.

More active sperm
In the category ‘you don't necessarily need to know this, but it's a fun fact to spice up a boring birthday party’: young people experience their first time much more often in the summer months than in the winter months. This is because men are significantly more fertile in June and August than in other months, and since the ultimate goal of a sexual encounter is reproduction, we have a lot in summer had more desire for sex because the chances of success are much greater then (even if you are not planning to spend your next summers with a forever +1). What simple beings we are, huh?

More free time
Have you ever met someone to whom you asked how they were doing, and they replied: ‘Good, busy!’? Exactly: in summer, we are all a lot less busy, creating space for flirts, dates, and more. Additionally, there are many more fun things to do where people are also dressed scantily, and temptation lurks around every corner.

So whether it's the sun rays that improve our mood, the hormones raging through our bodies, or just the abundance of free time and temptation around us: summer is the season in which flirting, kissing, and having sex are central. Enjoy the time of playful adventures, unexpected encounters, and passionate moments and follow your desires, because before you know it, it's again full cuffing season. For now: cheers to a summer full of love and lust!
