Today a Happy & Healthy Journey straight from New York and let that just be a city where I walk around excited and bouncy all day because there is an organic whatever store or a juice bar on every corner of the street, but we start on the plane.
Mise en place for flight AMS-JFK
The evening before we flew, I was in my kitchen peeling fruit and vegetables, boiling eggs, packing crackers, and slicing avocados. You might call it excessive, but I'm sorry, I really can't stand airplane meals. I want to make a project out of it someday because it can't be that hard, but that's beside the point. When the meals are served, I already pull out my Tupperware containers and ask the stewards for cutlery. It might be a bit of work and again, you might find it excessive, but I just get incredibly happy from this.
Filling the fridge
Upon arrival at our lovely huge apartment in the middle of Chelsea, we got incredibly hungry from the long journey, so we immediately go grocery shopping at a small supermarket around the corner. We fill the cart with delicious cheeses, fruit, yogurt, granola, hummus, chipolata sausages, crackers, naan bread, and I make my famous pumpkin-coconut soup. May-Britt buys a nice bottle of wine and we celebrate our first evening in New York “at home” with a table full of goodies.
Little moment of happiness
The jet lag hits hard, so at 6 o'clock I'm wide awake. Just like everyone else in the house. I prefer to start the day with some exercise, so I put on a Nike outfit, stuff my jump rope in my pocket, and jog out of the street. The top-40 list is blasting in my ears and I can tell you, I thrive on that; happiness surges through my body. It was a short round, just to get into it. Upon returning, May is waiting for me to grab a Starbucks and cameraman Sacha wants to capture me jumping in the middle of the street. That sounds like music to my ears, so we do that.
So much Jet
I can now really say that I get more hysterical from a fancy supermarket of the shoeheaven in Bergdorf Goodman. Sorry.
Liesbeth and I did “quick” lunch shopping at Whole Foods on Saturday, but that doesn't work, does it? Please let me loose there for two hours and then I can leave with a satisfied feeling. Rows full of energy and green bars, a corner where you can make your own fresh peanut butter, shelves meters long with granola, and I haven't even mentioned the superfoods and juices that are all freshly squeezed in the most beautiful colors just waiting to be grabbed.
We didn't have much time, so I still have to go back to stock up on a few things for the suitcase, but we did buy vegetable chips, seaweed snacks, fruit, baby spinach, and a chocolate cake for Josselin's birthday.
In line for The Butcher’s Daughter
Yesterday Liesbeth and May-Britt headed to the Victoria Beckham show and DvF and I got to go sneaker hunting with Josselin (a list of the coolest stores will follow soon). We ended up for lunch at The Butcher’s Daughter. A very small place with actually one long table and the rest stools along the window. It was packed and run by only (nice) men.
The wait was more than worth it. Josselin had two sunny side up eggs with sourdough bread, avocado, and a ratatouille. I can tell you, it was gone before I could ask for a bite. I got a kale salad with tempeh. Also incredibly delicious. The service was incredibly friendly, very fast, and you only want to look at the crowd because very young and hip New York meets here. By the way, the entire menu is vegetarian and dairy-free. Very nice for many people nowadays.
Did we score any sneakers? Yes. Three pairs, but for the folks back home...
