YOUR BEAUTY ROUTINE SAYS MORE ABOUT YOU THAN YOU THINK
You beauty ritual may seem very simple and obvious, but secretly those few minutes in the morning or evening say more about you than you think. You can be a secure applier with a paradise of creams and serums, or a simple applier with one jar for everything. The way you apply, what you use, and how much time you dedicate to it reveals something about yourself. I came across an article in which six different beauty personalities were examined by a psychologist, and this is what that ritual says about you.
The beauty chameleon
You are addicted to social media (you wake up with Instagram and end the day with Facebook) and are quite impressed by all the celebrities that appear on your feed. You like those looks and you try something different every day.
The psychologist says: “You are a risk-taker. You don’t stick to a particular regime very well, but you enjoy playing with makeup and hair. Only sometimes you might be a bit unsure about your sense of identity. Who are you, what do you like? A bit of a style seeker, then. Maybe a tip is to pay more attention to how you feel and find a good look that matches that. Then you remain playful and surprising, but at least it always fits you.”
The skin obsessed
Skincare is more your thing than just eyeshadow palettes, mascaras, and eyeliners. You lovingly spend more time on the 11-step plan in the morning than you put on a lot of makeup.
The psychologist says: “It could be that you had skin problems in the past, struggled a lot with an oily or dry skin, or were a regular at the dermatologist. It makes sense that you find a good skin extremely important and prioritize it. You are probably a type that pays a lot of attention to health and finds that important as well. You have no lack of self-confidence.”
The Basic Beauty
You don’t have a specific ritual, but just use what is available in the bathroom. You do have your own basics; a BB cream, mascara, and lip balm.
The psychologist says: “Actually, there are two types of women hidden in this ritual. Sometimes it’s a very confident woman who puts little effort into her appearance because she embraces what she already has. But it can also be a woman who is a bit rebellious. She is tired of what is presented to her and how she ‘should’ look ‘according to others’. So she uses very little and is fine with it all. It’s about the types ‘I look good enough without trying further’ and ‘I will never look better, no matter what I try.’.
The over-enthusiastic beauty lover
You set your alarm just a half hour earlier to do the perfect curl in your hair and to set your makeup perfectly. And your makeup bag; that’s a collection full of limited editions.
The psychologist says: “You are a woman who wants to have control over everything and everyone. You are also a perfectionist. You probably have a higher education, always want to dot the i’s and triple-check if you have all your things with you. And, if things don’t go exactly as you want, you will carry that with you all day, because then you feel a bit less comfortable in your skin. Yes, even if your look didn’t turn out exactly as you had planned.”
The luxury horse
You book a blow-dry every few days, you do a manicure weekly, and if your bank balance allows it, you would have a makeup artist come by every day. Oh, and for a night out, you do visit a good beauty counter to have your makeup touched up.
The psychologist says: “Again, this can be two different types. It can be someone who lacks self-confidence and tries to gain it by paying more attention to their appearance. They may not have many friends to discuss their look with, so they rely on the professionals. On the other hand, it can also be incredibly busy ladies – with careers, children, and who knows what else – who find it very important, but prefer to spend the remaining time on others. So they let themselves be pampered and have more time left to invest love and attention elsewhere. There’s something to be said for that.”
Quickie
Sleeping might be the biggest hobby, so it should last as long as possible. This also means that you go out the door to an appointment with wet hair and without makeup. So be it.
The psychologist says: “You do find your appearance important, but you are also so chaotic that you can never manage a good plan. There’s something to be said for that, because by staying cozy in bed for a long time, you do pay a lot of attention to inner beauty, which ultimately leads to flawless skin. If we look at it beauty-wise, you are a very relaxed and no-nonsense type.”
