Just a bit more about the Golden Globes

This morning I briefly talked about a number of the big winners of the evening, but I want to come back to the topic, because from now on the official countdown to the Oscars has started. Last night was the kick-off, where the red carpet was almost covered in black. Let's start with the looks of the evening, because black is anything but boring. My favorites of the evening?

  1. At the top of the list is Alicia Vikander in her Louis Vuitton dress. Just give me the white version of that and I've found my dream wedding dress.
  2. Saoirse Ronan – I don't know if I'm really in love with the dress or just with her, but this girl is currently very high on my girl crush list, and her dress from last night with a touch of sparkle matched perfectly with the Golden Globe she received for her role in Lady Bird.
  3. She may only be thirteen, but Millie Bobby Brown is already a style icon in the making. No exaggeration: her Calvin Klein fit well with her age (although I would wear it too), a good eyeliner and voilà: picture perfect on the red carpet.

By the way, not everyone adhered to the black theme, as colorful outfits were also spotted on the red carpet. For example, the German model and actress Barbara Meier (never heard of her in my life) walked the red carpet in a pastel pink princess dress, Blanca Blanco in a cut-out red evening gown, and Meher Tatna, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, wore a red dress, symbolizing her Indian culture.

And just a little bit about the woman of the night. Oprah Winfrey received the Cecil B. DeMille award yesterday, named after the famous director. Last year, Meryl Streep received the honor and this time it was Oprah with the accompanying speech that you must watch today:

I was already busy adding to my list of everything I want to see before I pull an ‘all-nighter’ on March 4th like last year to watch the Oscars, and the Golden Globes have helped me expand that list. So we have Lady Bird with that same Saoirse Ronan that I'm such a fan of, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Darkest Hour, The Shape of Water and Call Me By Your Name.

As for series, I assume most have already been binged by everyone (or binged), but if you want to know what is particularly doing well in Hollywood for some inspiration for your own screen, go for Big Little Lies, The Sinner, The Handmaid’s Tale and yes, my favorite, Stranger Things.

I also sniffed around online to see if there were any juicy stories to be found about everything behind the scenes at the big award show, but unfortunately, it was not much more than celebrities taking selfies with each other, Kelly Clarkson going completely wild when she met Meryl Streep, Mariah Carey accidentally sitting in Meryl's chair so she had to stand. In short, nothing very sleazy, but the perfect start to the awards season.
