Riverdale is getting a spin-off with Lucy Hale in the lead role

Yes, you read that right. Sometimes it's not necessary to beat around the bush, no cliffhanger, just straight to the point: Riverdale is getting a spin-off. And not only that, Lucy Hale will also play one of the lead roles. And I thought Tuesday was the most insignificant day of the week, that certainly doesn't apply this week. Your future addiction is called Katy Keene, which is also the name of the main character and will therefore be played by Lucy Hale.

Now personally, I always think of a spin-off as a series where a character makes a transition, but that's not the case here. And maybe that's for the best, because a Riverdale without Jughead or Archie is hard for me to imagine. No, by ‘spin-off’ they mean that it features characters from the Archie Comics, from which the Riverdale characters also come. And those from Sabrina The Teenage Witch, by the way. Whether we can expect a visit from Archie is still to be seen.

He will have to make a trip if that happens. Katy Keene will take place in New York (so maybe it will be an old friend of Veronica? Who knows). I'm already looking forward to all the beautiful New York shots. Because every time I rewatch Gossip Girl, I mentally plan a trip to this city, so new inspiration is always welcome. Katy is a young, ambitious woman who wants to make it in The Big Apple as a fashion designer. Until she has realized that dream, she works as a shopping advisor in a large department store. In that sense, Lucy Hale already has some experience in fashion; as Aria in Pretty Little Liars, she often wore the most striking outfits.

But she's not alone, together with three friends she makes the city unsafe. They also want to make it on Broadway, among other places. So I expect a lot of glamour, maybe a bit like Gossip Girl, especially with the fashion involved? A girl can dream. It will definitely be a drama/comedy, so I think a lot less grim than Riverdale (and probably a bit less Griffins & Gargoyles - but you won't hear me complaining about that, to be honest). Oh yes, also not entirely unimportant: there is also a musical aspect to it. If you didn't know yet: Lucy Hale can sing quite well. She even released her own country album.

Lucy is in any case over the moon with her role, she writes on Instagram. ‘Well, I’m slightly freaking out’. We are too, Lucy, we are too. But shall we agree that this series has a bit fewer twins, a bit fewer characters rising from the dead, and a bit fewer affairs with teachers? Okay, deal. Then I'm really looking forward to it.

Okay, lastly just a small disclaimer: the pilot episode has been ordered. So not the whole season yet. But I have good hope that this will be a success, so just count on it being on Netflix. And it looks like we will be busy with that. Can you keep up? The spin-off of Pretty Little Liars is also coming out this month, The Haunting of Hill House is getting a second season and let's not forget the second season of YOU And the third season of The Sinner with Matt Bomer in the lead role is also on its way. Let's see where we have to find that time, but I'm looking forward to it.
