Here you score the best pizzas in the Netherlands

Yes yes, you know what they say about sex: it's like pizza, even when it's bad, it's still good. That's a bit of an exaggeration, or at least it doesn't apply to me. I actually get really grumpy when I'm served a pizza that isn't good. I really love pizza (the love runs deep) and I can get really excited about it. So when something is put in front of me that is a meager six or – horror – a failing grade... Well, then you'd better take cover. Long story short: pizza is a big love of mine. And because I've only been eating liquid food for the past two weeks (thank you jaw and skull base fracture), I've been dreaming about pizzas for a week now. And about carpaccio rolls, so who knows, that might be my next tip list. In any case, I've never craved pizza this much in my life. I could sing a whole Knuffelrock album full of love songs about it. That's why I've done some thorough research, for when I can chew again (oh happy day), because you understand: I. Want. Pizza. As soon as possible. Here you will find the tastiest ones all over the country. Enjoy, a little for me too. You deserve it.
Amsterdam:
Tweede Tuindwarsstraat 53
A well-known name among Amsterdammers and rightly so, the pizzas here are unbelievably delicious. A bit of an Amsterdammer and pizza lover knows this spot of course. Always tasty, I could honestly eat here seven days a week. Although after a while I wouldn't fit through the door anymore. That's the only thing holding me back right now.
Frederik Hendrikstraat 88-90
Stone oven pizzas as they are meant to be. Not too much fuss, pure ingredients and very affordable. By the way, just a stone's throw away from La Perla, so a good stop for a pizza tour.
Multiple locations
Pizzerias are often not the coziest spots to sit, which makes it often a weekday dinner for me. At De Pizzabakkers, that's different: super cozy and their concept is simple. (Delicious) pizza and prosecco. You won't hear me complain. They have multiple locations, but I personally like the one in De Pijp the most.
Karel du Jardinstraat 32
Also ideal for a pizza tour; this one is again just a stone's throw away from De Pizzabakkers in De Pijp. Here too, it's cozy, but do make a reservation: it's a small place and you want to have a spot of course. The pizzas here are actually really gigantic, so skip that appetizer. And maybe your lunch too.
Bilderdijkstraat 92
New in Amsterdam and already a hit. The interior is quite modern, but the pizzas are traditionally Neapolitan, just the way we like it. The eye-catcher is the gigantic wood oven. And good news for vegans: there is a vegan pizza on the menu and it is delicious.
Multiple locations
Okay, okay, I'm adding one American pizza because they can be really delicious sometimes. I personally find the location in Magna Plaza the best, and then order a few slices (not too greedy, they are quite large). So. Much. Cheese. Delicious. Oh yes, they also do takeout and they have very large pizzas. As in: 50 centimeters large pizzas. Pizza party, anyone?
Also a sneaky shout-out to Monte Verde on Albert Cuypstraat, because the owners are so sweet and they introduced me to pizza. Not the best, but very nice. And 99 percent of the students in Amsterdam probably know which one I mean.
Utrecht
Laan van Nieuw Guinea 141
Convenient: this spot also delivers at home and they have very tasty antipasti besides pizza. Round the corner to go outside. Nice that they have a vegan pizza on the menu, but also a vegan antipasti platter. That’s why I forgive them for having a version of pizza Hawaii on the menu. In other words: the disgrace among pizzas.
Multiple locations
Yes, yes, De Pizzabakkers have also settled in Utrecht. They don't need an introduction anymore, because they are just as delicious as in Amsterdam. In Utrecht, they now have five locations, so that's going well.
Multiple locations
Three locations in Utrecht with three main ingredients: pizza, wine, and coffee. Well, I don't need more than that. Each location has a completely different atmosphere, so you can grab a quick dinner or go for an elaborate one. If you go for the latter option, definitely order a homemade panna cotta or tiramisu.
Plantage 1
Neapolitan pizzas are still the tastiest in my opinion. Sure, an American greasy pizza dripping with cheese is also good every now and then (and remains the ultimate hangover food), but these traditional pizzas remain my favorite. Funny: the menu also states the year when the pizzas originated. A little history lesson included.
Jan van Scorelstraat 21
There used to be a LaLotta in Amsterdam, which is now LouLou Pizzabar (I don't like the service there, so unfortunately for them no spot on the list). I'm not sure if this comes from the same place, but the pizzas at both are incredibly delicious – and healthier. It's also great that they have the option for gluten-free bases or whole grain here.
The Hague
Prins Hendrikstraat 75
Super cute little place where they also do delivery. However, I would recommend just stepping inside for a table. The pizzas are generously topped and I always find that a plus – is there such a thing as too much cheese? I thought so.
Pastanini
Frederik Hendriklaan 75
I don't know how they do it, but for the size of this spot they have a gigantic menu. It shouldn't be good for the quality, but the pizzas here are absolutely approved. I haven't tried the pastas (yes, they have those here too) yet. Also here traditional Neapolitan pizzas. Whatever you do, definitely order the Tartufo.
Denneweg 57
Very affordable pizzas, although I don't find this spot very cozy for an elaborate dinner. But no stress: they also just deliver. Definitely add a bruschetta, because if you incorporate that into your name, they must be good.
Pannekoekstraat 68
There they are again. I keep mentioning them in every city they are in. Are you looking for an ambassador by any chance? Hit me up.
Multiple locations
By the way, you also have this one in Amsterdam (and in Utrecht and Eindhoven). They also do delivery and the pizzas here are very tasty. Just a bit different than you're used to, because you order here by the slice and that slice is square. Ideal if, like me, you often want multiple variants and can't choose.
O’Pazzo
Mariniersweg 90
With this menu, I also spontaneously get choice stress, because they have traditional Italian dishes besides pizzas. But okay, pizza it is. Then you also have a small size or normal. That choice is easier made, better too much than too little of course. I think it looks a bit like a tourist place from the outside (sorry), so don't let that scare you.
Maastricht
Vrijthof 34
At the Vrijthof, it seems difficult to eat well (and at a normal price), but yes, it is possible. These pizzas are the recommendation in this city as far as I'm concerned. They actually don't have much more than pizza, but you definitely don't need to go for anything else here.
Scharnerweg 61
I must say that my pizza heart is not yet fully at home in Maastricht. I often go for other restaurants, and that might be a shame because they absolutely have delicious pizzas in this city. Exhibit A: this spot.
North Brabant
(Yes, sorry, I'm lumping the Brabant cities together)
Barlucca
Van Coothplein 24, Breda
Breda is my favorite city in North Brabant, because of the coziness, nice bars and restaurants, and of course pizzas. And I eat those pizzas here.
Da Lino
From the outside, it may not look like the most inviting place, but believe me: the pizzas here are more than sufficient. The pastas are good too, in case you're in the mood for that. They don't even have a website, so it's a matter of walking in on a whim.
Verwersstraat 46, Den Bosch
If you want to sit somewhere a bit cozier, hipper, and more modern (the eye wants something too, right), you're in the right place here. Side note: the lunch here is also too good. Very handy: you can order the pizzas by half or whole.
Trattoria Mangiare
Kleine Berg 67, Eindhoven
Eindhoven the craziest. Pizza is of course what you're here for, but having a drink at the bar is also quite nice. The menu changes with the seasons, and you can also take away. And even better: you can also do a prosecco brunch. Oh yes.
Wattstraat 70, Eindhoven
No matter how Italian the name sounds, the website name (pizzeria-eindhoven.nl? Really?) and the interior don't exactly scream bella Italia. But well, the food is really delicious, and you do feel a bit like you're in Italy.
That was it: the best pizzas I have encountered so far. Yes, Gelderland and the north are poorly represented. I'm sorry, I just don't go there often enough (never, actually). But that doesn't mean those tips aren't welcome; quite the opposite. I haven't gone further than De Pizzabakkers in Arnhem and Nijmegen, so I'm very curious where I can get the best pizzas in that area. Help me out.
