This is why your vagina smells so ‘weird’ after sex

You just had a nice session with your lover and now you're lying in bed catching your breath. But what do you smell? Is that you?
Your pussy can't exactly smell fresh after a bit of roughhousing. It happens to the best of us, so don't worry too much about it. Hormone expert Dr. Sara Gottfried explains: ‘Semen has a high pH level and vaginal discharge a low one. When these two come into contact, a chemical reaction occurs.’ Basically, it comes down to the fact that if you have sex without a condom, there is semen left in your vagina . And it's precisely because of that mix of your own vaginal acids that it can produce a strange smell down there.

The smell can also be present if you do use a condom, but then it smells just a bit different. The rubber of the condom mixed with sweat and the low pH level of the vagina also creates a different smell than you're used to when you haven't had sex. Often it can be easily resolved with a warm shower, but if you don't have time for that: put on your pajamas and sleep well. Your partner probably won't notice anything and is still enjoying the wild romp.
By the way, there is one smell you really need to pay attention to and that is: fish. If your pussy smells like fish, something might be wrong. Then it's a good idea to visit the doctor for advice: you might have an STD. It could also be due to your contraception like an IUD or the pill. Most contraceptives contain hormones that affect the acidity of your vagina and therefore the discharge can change as well. And oh yes, when you have your period, you often smell a bit metallic. Nothing strange about that. We all have it.
