How expensive it is to go to the Met Gala

Every year I think again that Coachella really has to be on my bucket list and I have to save up for it… But then the Met Gala comes around again and that becomes my new mission. Of course, there is a significant catch with the latter, namely: that invitation. For years I thought that if you got that invitation, you were literally and figuratively in, but then the costs actually start. Because an invitation, or a spot on the guest list, does not mean you can get in for free. Far from it.

It makes sense, because all in all it costs about 3.5 million to organize the Met Gala and you have to earn that money back somehow.

Still, most celebs do not pay for their ticket to the annual fashion event, no, someone else just does that for them. It is not uncommon for a designer to buy a table and then arrange celebs for it themselves. With Anna Wintour's approval of course, because even if you buy a whole table for the evening, she still has to approve all the guests and it can even be that she simply decides who you have to invite.

This year is more expensive than ever, with some tickets at 50K (in previous years the price started at 35K, quite a jump) and tables starting at 300K. If you are one of the lucky few who gets to sit at a table, you also get access to the museum to view the exhibition in peace beforehand, as many cocktails as you want, a dinner, and of course the exclusive party that lasts into the late hours. Well, if you look at it that way, it's actually just a really good price.

If you ever manage to get Miss Wintour to allow you to this event, there is one big plus: everyone who goes gets to walk the red carpet. It will probably be the case that people shout a little louder towards a Kim Kardashian than towards an unknown person, but anyway, you have your red carpet moment. It’s only fair, for that 50K, especially since all celebs get their outfit completely for free, and that is of course a different case for the less or non-famous.

In any case, we as normal people will probably have to take out a second mortgage if we ever want to buy tickets for this. Shall we just stick to the videos and photos that we see everywhere on the internet the day after? That is at least a lot cheaper.
