Off Campus: what is it about, season 2 and what do you watch after this?

Movies & series › Titles, cast & explanation

A hockey player, a student who can help, and a deal that from minute one is about more than just numbers. Off Campus is the romantic campus series from Prime Video that takes over your weekend, and that's exactly how it's meant to be. Here you can read what it's about, who is in it, what to expect in season 2, and what to watch next.

What is Off Campus about?

The series is set at Briar University and follows Hannah Wells, who is trying to fix her own things, and Garrett Graham: a hockey player, popular guy, and the type who probably knows very well that he is charming. He needs help, she can help, a deal is struck. And from that moment on, you already know that this is not just about numbers.

That's immediately the strength of the series. It's not complicated, and it doesn't have to be complicated. Off Campus reads like a text you didn't really want to answer right away, but still read three times. The chemistry is there, the campus vibe is there, the hockey jerseys are there, and before you know it, you're emotionally invested in people you didn't know yesterday.

The Briar Hawks

Besides Hannah and Garrett, the series revolves around the friend group surrounding the Briar hockey team, the Briar Hawks. Think of Garrett, John Logan, and Dean Di Laurentis, who already play a significant role in season 1. This makes it feel less like a series about one couple and more like a friend group you want to join, with everyone getting involved in everything. This also explains why season 2 can shift the spotlight without feeling strange.

Is it really a sports series?

No, and that's not a criticism. Just like with other hockey stories, the sport is often more of a backdrop than the main subject. You can also see that in our piece on why everyone is in love with hockey series. The games are the setting; the feelings are the plot.

Who is in the cast and who plays whom?

For season 1, the characters are set, as mentioned above. For season 2, there is new casting news, and more is known about that than about the main characters from the first season. Here are the names that come up in our articles:

CharacterPlayed byWhat we know
Hannah WellsNot yet knownCentral figure of season 1, the storyline of the first book.
Garrett GrahamNot yet knownHockey player and popular guy, Hannah's counterpart.
Allie HayesNot yet knownActress and soon to be the lead in the primary romance of season 2.

Grace IversIndia FowlerNew in season 2, the love interest of John Logan.
ScarlettPhillipa SooStage director, known from Hamilton, new in season 2.
Justin KohlJosh HeustonProbably not returning in season 2.

Note: our articles do not mention the actors behind Hannah, Garrett, Allie, Dean, and Logan by name. We won't fill that in ourselves here. The showrunner of the series is Louisa Levy.

What kind of book is Off Campus?

Off Campus is based on the popular books by Elle Kennedy: the Off-Campus series. Season 1 follows the first book, The Deal, and thus the storyline of Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham. In the books, the next one is The Mistake, the story of Logan and Grace. The series flips that order in season 2, but more on that later.

The effect on viewers is predictable. Our reviewer finished the series in one weekend and was then, in their own words, dangerously close to ordering the books. That says it all: a series that not only keeps you watching but also sends you to the bookstore has done its job. The fact that Off Campus is part of a larger wave of YA book adaptations is also evident in this overview of book adaptations coming to Prime Video.

What did we think of it?

Sometimes you want a series that doesn't require you to read three reviews first, remember five family histories, and end up sitting on the couch with a slight existential crisis. Our reviewer started Off Campus with the idea of just checking out what the hype was. That's always dangerous, because ‘just checking’ usually means you're still sitting in the same position three hours later, with an empty glass next to you and zero shame. And so it goes now.

The verdict without beating around the bush:

  • Is it high-quality television that you'll discuss deeply at the office on Monday? Maybe not.
  • Is it delightful binge material for a weekend when you don't want to deal with anything heavy? Absolutely.
  • Waarom werkt het? Chemistry, campus vibe, hockey jerseys, and characters you invest in immediately.
  • For whom? Anyone in the mood for romance and campus stories without heavy questions.

Off Campus season 2: what do we know?

The most important news first: season 2 is no longer wishful thinking. Prime Video had so much confidence in the series that the second season was ordered before season 1 was even online. So we are going back to Briar University, the locker rooms, the hallways, and the hockey boys with too much self-confidence.

Allie and Dean become the new main couple

While season 1 revolved around Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, the spotlight shifts in season 2 to Allie Hayes and Dean Di Laurentis. Showrunner Louisa Levy has indicated that they will be the primary romance. This is notable because in the books, The Mistake comes first. However, season 1 already planted seeds: their chemistry was there, their chaos too. The expectation is less fake dating and more friends with benefits, which of course won't remain friends with benefits.

Logan and Grace are being built up

For readers of The Mistake, no panic. India Fowler has been cast as Grace Ivers, the love interest of John Logan. The series treats the book order a bit more loosely. There is a good chance that their story will be prepared in season 2 so that it can grow larger later. You think you are watching one romance, while three other love lives are being set up in the meantime.

Hannah and Garrett remain nearby

Their great love story has been told, but Hannah and Garrett do not seem to be disappearing from the face of the earth. The series will likely lean on the Briar dynamics of the friend group. We just want to see them happy for a moment, instead of just suffering, longing, and miscommunicating.

More theater, more campus

Phillipa Soo, known from Hamilton, plays Scarlett: a theater maker who appears as a guest director in the drama department of Briar University. This is good news for Allie, who is an actress herself and will likely get her own story outside of her love life. Season 2 seems to be expanding beyond hockey and romance: more campus life, more friendships, and more ambition.

Who is not coming back?

A small disappointment: Justin Kohl, played by Josh Heuston, does not seem to be returning in season 2. His role was closely tied to Hannah's story, so it's not very surprising. The door does not seem to be closed forever.

When will season 2 be released?

There is no official release date yet. What we do know: the second season got early green light, the scripts have been written according to the creators, and the cast would start filming soon after the premiere of season 1. Season 1 was released on May 13, 2026. With a similar production schedule, a release in 2027 seems very logical, but as long as Prime Video does not confirm anything, it remains an educated guess. We are already looking forward to spring 2027, without marking it in the calendar with a pen.

Why are we suddenly in love with ice hockey series?

Off Campus is not alone. Heated Rivalry and Off Campus are being watched and discussed immensely, and Netflix has acquired the rights to adapt the BookTok hit Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. That film is produced by Alex Cooper, known from her podcast Call Her Daddy. The internet is officially under the spell of ice hockey.

The short answer from our editorial team: ice hockey is hot. The game is fast, players glide over the ice at more than 30 kilometers per hour, and the rink is about three times smaller than a soccer field, making everything happen at full speed, including the collisions. The hefty equipment adds an extra layer of mystery to the sport. TikTok affectionately dubbed the phenomenon the ‘boy aquarium’. Garrett Graham is now in the ranks of Ilya Rozanov, Shane Hollander, and soon Nathan Hawkins, whose hearts make viewers beat faster.

Want more of this genre? About Heated Rivalry, based on Rachel Reid's Game Changers books, we wrote this piece about the sexiest series of the moment. It also states that the series has been streaming in the Netherlands on HBO since January 23.

Finished Off Campus? Here's what to watch next

Are you in the empty gap between ‘seen everything’ and ‘should I order the books anyway’? This is the recovery plan from our reviewer, supplemented with series from other articles.

SeriesWhereWhy it fits
Maxton HallPrime VideoElite school, class differences, glances, and enough chaos for one more episode. Season 3 is coming in December.
The Summer I Turned PrettyNot mentionedRomance, sun, and triangles. Less college, more summer, the same investment energy.
My Life with the Walter BoysNetflixStarts light and subtly takes over your entire evening.
Tell Me LiesNot mentionedToxic: campus, attraction, and red flags, without romcom filter.
The Sex Lives of College GirlsNot mentionedCampus vibe with more humor and girlfriend groups. Messy in the right way.
One DayNot mentionedA bit more mature, a bit more painful, for one more book adaptation.
Crew GirlNetflixSporty YA series, now with rowing instead of hockey.
Every After YearPrime VideoMore mature YA romance in the harbor town of Barry’s Bay.

Crew Girl: the rowing cousin of Off Campus

Crew Girl follows sixteen-year-old Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau), a talented rower who wants to go to Stanford. That plan hits a snag when her father is accused of fraud and disappears without a trace, taking all his money with him. Together with her mother Ella, she moves to Eagle’s Cove in Massachusetts. At Easton Prep, there is no girls' rowing team, so Teagan becomes the coxswain of the boys' team. Of course, there is also a love triangle, between the sweet underdog Cam Dillinger (Kyle Clark) and team captain Josh Regis (Samuel Braun).

Is it the new Off Campus? Not quite. The characters are still in high school, so the series feels tamer and lacks comparable steamy locker room scenes. However, there is attraction, pressure to perform, team spirit, and romance that secretly gets more attention than the matches. Read our piece: Missing Off Campus? There’s a new sporty YA series on Netflix.

Every After Year and The Love Hypothesis

After The Summer I Turned Pretty and Off Campus, we believe a new young adult romance is on the way: Every After Year. It doesn't revolve around students, but about 28-year-old Percy (Sadie Soverall), who returns to Barry’s Bay for a funeral after ten years and sees her former best friend Sam (Matt Cornett) again. It's a more realistic drama about guilt and mistakes, in eight episodes.

In the mood for fake dating with an academic background? The Love Hypothesis, based on the book by Ali Hazelwood, has been on Prime Video since September 23 and lasts about 1 hour and 52 minutes. Lili Reinhart plays PhD student Olive Smith, Tom Bateman plays Professor Adam Carlsen.
