I Will Find You: what is the Netflix series about and is it good?
Movies & series › Titles, cast & explanation
A father is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son, until someone claims that the child may still be alive. That is the pitch of I Will Find You, the new Harlan Coben series on Netflix. The series climbed to number 1, our reviewer found it utterly nonsensical, and yet everyone kept watching. This is everything you want to know before you start eight episodes.

What is I Will Find You about?
David Burroughs is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son. He swears he is innocent. When evidence emerges that his son may still be alive, a new investigation begins. And anyone who wants to prove his innocence must first do something that is quite difficult in prison: escape.
Furthermore, we keep it spoiler-free, because the series thrives on what you don't know yet. The ingredients are well known. Our reviewer lists them:
- a murder that may not be a murder;
- someone who is innocent in prison;
- a missing child;
- a secret from the past;
- a character that suddenly appears halfway through;
- and a plot that completely derails in the last two episodes.
Does that sound like a classic Coben? That's right: a secret from the past, a missing child, and everyone hiding something.
How many episodes does I Will Find You have?
Eight. Our reviewer watched them all in one weekend, and that is exactly the kind of series that seems made for such a weekend. It is a miniseries on Netflix. Our review was published on June 30, 2026, when the series was already at number 1.
That number 1 shouldn't surprise you. Netflix has a reliable hit machine with Harlan Coben. In January 2026, the count was twelve Netflix series based on his work, and thanks to the writer's deal with the streaming service, at least fourteen of his books are coming to Netflix. Prime Video has started its own Coben archive with Shelter and Lazarus. Want to know what's new on the streaming service? Check our page New on Netflix and streaming.

Who is playing in I Will Find You?
Here we must be honest: our review only mentions the character David Burroughs and no actor's name. What we can say is that Coben likes to rely on familiar faces in his series. James Nesbitt previously starred in Missing You and Stay Close, and Richard Armitage now has four Coben titles on his resume. Whether that also applies to this series, we prefer not to guess.
What did our reviewer think of I Will Find You?
The short version: not much. Danielle Heerkens wrote the review that we headlined with “The new Harlan Coben series on Netflix is utterly nonsensical.” The long version consists of four points.
1. The story becomes increasingly bizarre
It starts off reasonably believable, with a man serving life for something he may not have done. But somewhere halfway through, according to our reviewer, the same thing always happens: the story becomes increasingly bizarre, absurd, and unbelievable, and there are so many plot twists that you wonder if the writers themselves have lost the plot. Coincidences pile up. Characters make the most illogical choices ever. Suddenly, everyone seems to be hiding something from each other.
2. The big reveal
You won't get spoilers here, but our reviewer had to laugh seriously at the reveal. Not because it was meant to be funny, but because it became so disproportionate that it almost seemed like a parody of itself.
3. Dialogues and characters
Normally, you can save an unbelievable story with strong actors. Here, that doesn't work. The dialogues feel like they come straight out of a bad soap opera, and some characters remain so flat that you don't invest a second in them. Emotionally, you don't get involved at all.
4. The perfect hair after the chase
A detail that made us laugh heartily: everyone still looks like they just stepped out of makeup after an escape, chase, or shootout. Realism is not the series' strong point.

Why do you keep watching?
That is the question the review actually revolves around. Our reviewer went online to see if they were the only one with this experience, and no: the same reactions were echoed everywhere. “Unbelievable.” “Absurd.” “Far-fetched.” “What have I actually been watching?” And yet everyone kept watching.
The answer is an online description that Danielle Heerkens found so apt that the review adopts it: Coben series are the fast-food version of thrillers. You already know in advance that it's not good. But still, you want to know how it ends. Our reviewer calls that the greatest quality of Harlan Coben. Not that his series are good, but that they hold you.
The promise at the end of the review is: never again a Harlan Coben series on Netflix. Will that promise hold? The review itself openly doubts it, because with the next adaptation, our reviewer will probably just be back on the couch.
What other Harlan Coben series are there?
I Will Find You is not the first series in the Coben series and certainly not the last. Opinions about the titles vary remarkably, as you can see with Run Away.
| Series | Where | What we know about it |
|---|---|---|
| Run Away | Netflix | Since January 1, 2026 on Netflix. Simon (James Nesbitt) seemed to have the perfect life until his daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange) disappears. Scores 75 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. |
| Missing You | Netflix | Coben's last project before Run Away. Some fans were somewhat disappointed according to our editorial team. James Nesbitt starred. |
| Stay Close | Netflix | Previous Coben series with James Nesbitt. |
| Shelter | Prime Video | Part of the Coben archive of Prime Video. Adrian Greensmith starred and later also worked on Run Away. |
| Lazarus | Prime Video | Second Coben title on Prime Video, alongside Shelter. |
Two of our editors are completely at odds about Run Away. Maartje Beks called it addictive and felt that the mysteries “do score.” Danielle Heerkens calls the same series by far the worst acted series ever. Read both and decide for yourself: The thriller king is back: this new Harlan Coben series conquers Netflix.

Which thrillers are better than I Will Find You?
In the mood for suspense without the chance of laughing out loud at a plot twist? Here are the alternatives we've previously lined up for you.
| Title | Platform | Why watch |
|---|---|---|
| The Whisper Man | Netflix | Film based on the book by Alex North, with Adam Scott as father Tom Kennedy and Robert De Niro as detective Peter Willis. Son Jake is kidnapped, a serial killer is back. |
| and Scorsese was to work on | Apple TV+ | Psychological thriller starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson. Ten episodes, a remake of the 1991 film. |
| Oasis | Netflix | Spanish-language thriller about a disappearance in a luxury resort, with a White Lotus vibe and many plot twists. |
| A Toxic Love Story | Netflix | True crime docu where you constantly change your mind about who the perpetrator is. |
The Whisper Man: serial killer, grief, and children's rhymes
Our editorial team calls The Whisper Man a gem on Netflix. Tom Kennedy (Adam Scott) moves to the village of Garretton with his son after the death of his partner. It's a bad time to discover that an old serial killer lives there who targets young boys. When Jake is kidnapped, the trail leads to Tom's father: Peter Willis (Robert De Niro), the detective who once arrested the killer. Michelle Monaghan and Michael Keaton are also on the cast list. The difference with Coben? Besides the whodunit, there is a real family drama about loss, guilt, and a painful bond between father and son, plus whispering children's rhymes that give you the creeps.

Cape Fear: slowly gets under your skin
Anna and Tom Bowden, a successful lawyer couple in Savannah, Georgia, encounter Max Cady (Javier Bardem), who returns after years in prison to settle a score. According to Danielle Heerkens, this is not a fast-paced action series, but a psychological thriller that slowly gets under your skin. Javier Bardem is not loud or violent, but unsettlingly calm, and some critics call it one of his best roles ever. Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg are executive producers. Oasis: the Spanish White Lotus
The luxury resort Oasis is only meant for the wealthiest families. Dani (Tomy Aguilera) meets Celia (Victoria Kantch), who works at the hotel, until she disappears. Together with her best friend Helena (Ana Garcés), he starts his own investigation. You truly trust no one, which makes it enjoyable. Less humor and social criticism than the American series, more cliffhangers and suspicious behavior. Everything is in This series is just like the White Lotus with a Spanish twist.
What do you watch if you love true crime and real disappearances?
Fiction with a missing child is one thing. Reality is often even stranger, but also heavier. We have discussed these titles, with respect for the people involved.
- A Toxic Love Story (Netflix): a docuseries about Angela and Ian. After a romantic start, Angela receives threatening emails from someone who calls herself ‘Lilith’. It is based on a true case, and the creators delved into police files, bodycam footage, and interrogations. Our editorial team calls it full of plot twists. Read the piece.
- Should I Marry a Murderer? (Netflix): three Scottish episodes about Caroline Muirhead, a pathologist from Glasgow, and what happens when her fiancé confesses something. Danielle Heerkens rates it with: “Yes. Absolutely.” Read the piece.
- The TikTok Killer (Netflix): a two-part docu about the disappearance of the Spanish Esther Estepa. It is heavy and real. Read the piece.
- Alguien tiene que saber (Netflix): a Spanish-language miniseries about a disappearance, based on the case of 23-year-old Jorge Matute Johns who never returned home after a night out in 1999. Not the fastest series, but a strong story. Read the piece.
