Je hebt het waarschijnlijk ervaren: je hebt problemen met iemand en blijft worstelen om de oorzaak te achterhalen. Totdat je op een dag “narcisme” googelt en je realiseert dat die persoon elk vakje afvinkt. Of, in mijn geval, negentien van de twintig. Ik dacht dat “mijn” narcist niet loog, totdat ik ontdekte dat ze zo overtuigend konden liegen dat ik het niet eens merkte. Voilà: de über-narcist. Er zijn manieren om een narcist te herkennen. Bijvoorbeeld, ze gebruiken vaak zinnen zoals deze:

"Je bent te gevoelig."

→ Narcisten minimaliseren vaak de gevoelens van anderen om hun eigen gedrag te rechtvaardigen en jou aan jezelf te laten twijfelen (gaslighting).

"Ik ben de enige die je echt begrijpt."

→ Ze creëren een gevoel van exclusiviteit om je afhankelijk te maken en anderen in je leven te discrediteren. Narcisten isoleren je ook graag van geliefden zodat je afhankelijker wordt.

"Ik heb dat nooit gezegd."

→ Dit is een klassiek voorbeeld van gaslighting: ze verdraaien de waarheid en laten je twijfelen aan je eigen herinneringen. Heb je niet ook een baas gehad die 's ochtends om groen vroeg, en toen je groen bracht, casual zei dat ze paars bedoelden?

"Jij maakt van alles een probleem."

→ Narcisten verschuiven de verantwoordelijkheid en laten je in elke situatie schuldig lijken.

"Iedereen denkt dat je overreageert."

→ Ze proberen groepsdruk te creëren, zelfs als die niet bestaat, om je klein en onzeker te laten voelen. En zo gaat de isolatie door: ze laten je aan jezelf twijfelen over alles. Vreselijk.

"Je kunt niet zonder mij."

→ Dit is een vorm van manipulatie om je afhankelijk te houden zodat je hen niet verlaat.

"Je bent jaloers op mij."

→ Narcisten projecteren hun eigen onzekerheden op anderen en verdraaien situaties om zichzelf als slachtoffer te laten lijken.

"Ik deed het alleen omdat ik van je hou."

→ Dit wordt vaak gebruikt om grensoverschrijdend gedrag te rechtvaardigen en emotionele controle te behouden. Heel, heel gevaarlijk. Ik kan je maar één advies geven: loop niet, baby, ren. Bronnen: WebMD.com, Healthline.com

Waar kun je een vrouwelijke narcist herkennen? Nou, als je er even op googelt, kun je gemakkelijk een paar uur besteden aan het afvinken van rode vlaggen. Ik ben daar geweest, heb dat gedaan. En misschien denk je: “Ah, een narcist is gewoon iemand die iets te vaak in de spiegel kijkt?” Als het maar zo simpel was. De vrouwelijke narcist is vaak net iets subtieler, slinkser en… nou ja, gemener dan haar mannelijke tegenhanger. Hoe herken je haar? Ga zitten, want ik ga je alles vertellen.

1. Ze verpakt kritiek als een compliment

“Wauw, geweldige presentatie, dat zou ik nooit kunnen – vooral niet zonder voorbereiding.” Als iemand ooit zo’n opmerking heeft gemaakt en je je plotseling afvroeg of je nu werd gecomplimenteerd of beledigd: bingo. De vrouwelijke narcist is een meester in passief-agressieve opmerkingen. Ze prijst je schijnbaar, maar zaait tegelijkertijd twijfel. Ze wil boven je staan, maar doet het met een glimlach. Glad en sluw.

2. Alles draait om haar (zelfs op jouw verjaardag)

Het maakt niet uit of het jouw verjaardag is, je bruiloft, of je net bent gepromoveerd: op de een of andere manier vindt ze altijd een manier om het weer naar zichzelf toe te trekken. “Oh, je bent naar Bali geweest? Ja, ik was daar vorig jaar. Maar ik verbleef in het exclusieve eco-resort, wist je dat?” Vrouwelijke narcisten kunnen het gewoon niet laten om zichzelf in de schijnwerpers te zetten. Sterker nog, als ze niet het middelpunt van de aandacht zijn, nemen ze het gewoon zelf.

3. Ze speelt de perfecte vriendin (tot de maskers vallen)

In het begin is ze je beste vriendin. Ze luistert, empathiseert, geeft advies. Maar langzaam verschuift het. Je merkt dat je steeds meer energie steekt in haar problemen, haar jaloezie, haar drama’s. De vrouwelijke narcist kan ongelooflijk charmant zijn – maar alleen zolang het haar dient. Op het moment dat je grenzen stelt of haar succes overtreft, wordt ze koud, afstandelijk of ronduit gemeen. En daar zit je dan, vast met je loyaliteit en goedgelovigheid.

4. Ze gebruikt haar vrouwelijkheid als een wapen

Het klinkt cliché, maar vrouwelijke narcisten weten precies hoe ze hun uiterlijk en charme moeten gebruiken. Niet alleen bij mannen, maar ook bij vrouwen. Door middel van vleierij, subtiele aanrakingen of een verleidelijke blik manipuleert ze de mensen om haar heen. Maar pas op: het is geen oprechte warmte; het is een strategie. Vandaag kust ze je drie keer op de wang, morgen steekt ze je in de rug – en doet alsof je het verdiende.

Wat is narcisme eigenlijk?

Terug naar de basis. Narcisme is een persoonlijkheidsstoornis waarbij iemand een overdreven gevoel van eigenwaarde heeft, weinig empathie toont en voortdurend hunkert naar bewondering. Terwijl mannelijke narcisten zich vaak openlijk tentoonstellen, zijn vrouwelijke narcisten meer covert: ze manipuleren subtiel, spelen sociale spelletjes en gebruiken emotionele chantage. Het gevaar? Ze lijken zo charmant, maar ondertussen putten ze je uit.

Verschillen tussen mannelijke en vrouwelijke narcisten

Hoewel beide types dezelfde narcistische kern delen, manifesteert het zich vaak anders. Mannelijke narcisten zijn meestal direct, dominant en opzichtig. Vrouwelijke narcisten werken meer indirect: ze roddelen, manipuleren via anderen (triangulatie) en gebruiken emoties als een machtsmiddel. Denk aan Regina George uit *Mean Girls*: achter de glimlach schuilt een meedogenloze strategie.

Beroemde vrouwelijke narcisten

Wie past in deze categorie? Denk aan personages zoals Cersei Lannister (*Game of Thrones*) of Amy Dunne (*Gone Girl*). In de echte wereld worden soms namen genoemd zoals Madonna of Meghan Markle, hoewel dat altijd speculatie is. Wat ze gemeen hebben: een onweerstaanbare mix van charme, ambitie en manipulatie. Je wilt bij hen zijn – totdat je je realiseert dat je gewoon een pion in hun spel bent.

Is narcisme gevaarlijk?

Het korte antwoord? Ja. Vooral omdat je het vaak te laat doorhebt. Vrouwelijke narcisten gebruiken hun sociale vaardigheden om hun omgeving te controleren, wat emotioneel uitputtend kan zijn. Ze spelen de slachtofferrol, verdraaien verhalen en zetten mensen tegen elkaar op. En als je probeert te vertrekken? Meestal volgt er een emotionele wraak. Snijd je verliezen, zou ik zeggen – en loop weg. Of beter nog: ren.

5 tekenen dat je met een vrouwelijke narcist te maken hebt

Ze roddelt constant maar noemt zichzelf “eerlijk”. Ze maakt je subtiel onzeker maar noemt het “feedback”. Haar vriendschap voelt als een verplichting. Je voelt je schuldig als je iets voor jezelf doet. Ze speelt de slachtofferrol als je een grens stelt.

Volgens beschikbare informatie zijn de beroepen waar narcisme vaker voorkomt: Politiek: waar macht en invloed centraal staan. Onderwijs: waar autoriteit en kennis macht kunnen geven. Religie: waar leiderschap en spirituele autoriteit belangrijk zijn. Bedrijfsmanagement: waar controle over anderen en zichtbaar succes belangrijk zijn. Geneeskunde: waar expertise en besluitvormingsautoriteit aanwezig zijn. Militair: waar hiërarchie en commando respect eisen. Wetshandhaving: waar autoriteit en het handhaven van de wet centraal staan. Showbusiness en sport: waar roem en prestaties worden gevierd. Bovendien lijkt sociale media ook een platform te bieden waar narcistische eigenschappen kunnen gedijen, vooral onder mensen die streven naar aandacht en validatie door volgers en likes. Nou jongens, er is niet veel meer over. Maar zeg niet dat we je niet gewaarschuwd hebben.

I once wrote about why she is the best-dressed woman in the world, in my opinion. Her 'Rachel' haircut is the most requested haircut ever in salons. Amsterdam has the 9 Streets, London has Seven Dials, a neighborhood just outside the hustle and bustle with, yes, 7 ‘cobbled’ streets featuring a delightful mix of international brands (Paul Smith, Kiehl’s, Le Labo, Malin+Goetz, Fred Perry...), small boutiques, bars, and plenty of amazing spots for the perfect Insta-shot. Seven Dials was founded by real estate developer Thomas Neale, who placed it in such a way that the seven streets, arranged in a triangular shape, all lead to the Seven Dials monument. Colin Farrell: de onverwachte bad boy

Het waren niet alleen vrouwen die te maken kregen met gelekte tapes. In 2005 dook er een sekstape op van acteur Colin Farrell en Playboy-model Nicole Narain. Farrell vocht om de distributie te blokkeren, maar tevergeefs: de tape circuleerde. Het maakte hem kort de ultieme Hollywood bad boy, maar Farrell bewees te getalenteerd te zijn om door het te worden gedefinieerd. Hulk Hogan: de rechtszaak van de eeuw

Niet bepaald sexy, maar zeker iconisch: de tape van worstellegende Hulk Hogan die in 2012 lekte. Hogan vocht terug – hard. Hij klaagde het mediaplatform Gawker aan voor schending van de privacy, en de rechtszaak werd legendarisch. Hogan won, Gawker ging failliet. Het stelde een nieuw precedent voor hoe de media met dergelijke tapes om mag gaan.

Van schandaal naar businessmodel

Terwijl Pamela en Tommy slachtoffers waren van diefstal, werden Paris en Kim het bewijs dat een sekstape je carrière kan lanceren. Tegenwoordig is er meer bewustzijn: we spreken minder casual over gelekte tapes en meer over toestemming, privacy en de grenzen van roem.
